yeah, it'all just oozing out of my head. don't even know what it is, but it tastes like the usual crazy with a side of who-are-you-talking-to-no-one's-listening. i decided after a long time of thinking about it (which never ever ever ever happens. except this one time right here) that i should knit some socks. i've tried crocheting them, and honestly crochet socks suck. for me. they're not the same as knitted ones. mine aren't. they don't bend or stretch or let me pull them on without arranging them carefully upon my feet.
so i got this sock book. it's very nice. it's simple enough for me and has lots of descriptions and pictures and examples. very good for my leaky brains. yeah, i even learned how to do a long tail cast on :) just from reading and looking at pictures of what i was reading. that made me happy. here's a picture of the book

i'm excited because i have all sunday and monday off from work (yay, socks!)
paulie and i go Shopkicking on sunday but i can bring my project along for the last part of the adventure ohyeah :D! we like to sit in Barnes and Noble and drink coffee (paulie doesn't like coffee but he pretends so cutely). he likes to find magazines about Android stuff or video games or zombies, and his eyeballs light up and he gets all excited showing me upside down pictures and print. cuz i'm across from him, unless we're lucky enough to find a booth or some comfy chairs. those are always taken up by people who like to go on facebook on their laptops. helloooo that's what your home is for. aren't they worried about random strangers peaking over their shoulders? aren't they ashamed to be in a BOOK STORE and neither be buying nor reading a BOOK? wait... i lost where i was. in cute-land painting a picture of cuteness.
so anyway yeah, i'm sure there was something else i was thinking of yesterday when i started to write this... but i got frustrated last night with my internet connection and ended up just going to sleep. eventually it will come back to me.

Free Fingers! (warm hands)

so i needed gloves to go with my hat :) but i'm always texting or whatever on my phone so i need my fingers free. i made these with the left over yarn from the hat, same skein, yay. they are made in one piece but with a seam that is magically hidden because of the pattern stitch.. well at least it doesn't show too much anyway.

now this is what husbands are good for :D taking pictures of hands! lol. i couldn't get a pic of my own hands so i made my husband get one for me. okok, enough type, more pattern!

Materials:

1 skein Red Heart Shimmer

scissors

size G hook (US)

Pattern: (make 2)

CH 38 (or to desired length, this starting chain determines how far up your arm the warmy-things will go)

1. HDC in 3rd CH from hook and in each across, turn at end of row.

2. *NOTE*- "normal" crochetiers make a ch2 at beginning of row to stand as the first hdc, but i don't do normal :) i make a ch1 and then hdc in the very first stitch. the ch1 is never crocheted on, it's just to fluff out the ends of my rows cuz i hate those weird holes that happen with chains that stand as stitches.. anyways, 2. CH 1, HDC in back loop of each HDC across, turn at end of row.

3-18. CH 1, HDC in back loop of each HDC across.

my arms and hands are rather skinny, you need to get the piece to wrap around your hand snugly but comfortably, so you might need more rows (do them in 2's if you can, if not the joining will be a little different looking)

DO NOT FASTEN OFF YARN yet :) fold the piece lengthwise with right side facing you. those ridges that happened from the back loops are going to help you conceal the seam ;)

i find that a CH 1 before starting to sl st with un-unfastened yarn helps my first sl st not be all unravely... anyways

SL ST edges together like this: match the stitches up and SL ST the first 10 ones loosely. then you will make the thumb thingie like this:

CH 1 (just to get some height for your new stitches), HDC in each of next 7 sts. Turn warmy thingie in progress so that the stitches you just made are facing you, so you can make stitches of equal number on the other side (this is where you gotta count, but only to 7, phew!) just hop over once you have the correct calculation, making 7 HDC in each of the mirroring stitches. Join with SL ST to top of first HDC.

Now you get to work in rounds! Make 2 more rounds of HDC, then make one round of SC if you like. i did it cuz i like how it looks but it's not essential.

NOW fasten off yarn after the last round has been secured.

then fasten the yarn to the stitches closest to the new thumby piece you just made, and continue to SL ST in the same direction you were originally going with the first 10 SL ST's. Fasten off yarn when you get to the end, and voila! i hope it looks like the picture a little bit!

Hey, look! A pattern! While i have been trying to remember how i made a couple knitted hats, i crocheted a totally different one :)
i found my app called Catch really helpful with note taking so i could remember all the steps i took to make my hat... i used to only use it to make lists of books, yeah i'm a monster of boring.

it's a really easy hat that only uses CH, SC (and sl st to join, but if you like to do the spiral thingie with no joins then hardly even that i guess). i made it using Red Heart Shimmer, which is kinda thin, it's labeled as medium weight yarn but it's skinnier than my other medium stuff.. please crochet LOOSELY if you use the same yarn to make this hat or it will be TIGHT
i used a G hook, if you have a tight tension use a bigger hook

Materials:
1 skein Red Heart Shimmer (or other med yarn)

Size G hook (US)

Scissors

Pattern:

CH 4, join with SL ST to form ring

1. CH 1, make 12 SC in ring, join with SL ST to top of first SC

2. CH 1, make 2 SC in each SC around, join with SL ST to top of first SC in round

3. CH 1, make 1 SC in each SC around, join with SL T to top of first SC in round

4. Repeat round 3

5. CH1, make 1 SC in first SC, 2 SC in next. Make (1 SC in next SC, 2 SC in next), around. Join with SL ST to top of first SC in round

6. CH 1, make 1 SC in each of first 2 SC, 2 SC in next. Make (1 SC in each of next 2 SC, 2 SC in next) around. Join with SL ST to top of first SC in round

7. Repeat round 3

8. CH 1, make 1 SC in each of first 3 SC, 2 SC in next. Make (1 SC in each of next 3 SC, 2 SC in next) around. Join with SL ST to top of first SC in round

9. CH 1, make 1 SC in each of first 4 SC, 2 SC in next. Make (1 SC in each of next 4 SC, 2 SC in next) around. Join with SL ST to top of first SC in round

10 & 11. Repeat round 3

12. CH 1, make 1 SC in each of next 5 SC, 2 SC in next. Make (1 SC in each of next 5 SC, 2 SC in next) around. Join with SL ST to top of first SC in round

Wow i have really got to stop abandoning my internets :P sorry about that.
For a while i've just been off in insane-o-land... busy? Not really "busy" but eh, "preoccupied".. unoccupied too, for 3 months. (had to get a new job)

i found a tiny amount of red heart soft yarn in my "stash" (which is really just a cardboard box with LIVE PLANTS written on it full of yarn) and i really wanted to use it. but it was such a little bit.. so i decided to make a baby thingie. it's not a sweater, it's a shirt... it looks kinda like a kimono to me but i dunno.

heres a picture of the edging, crab stitch (reverse sc) which is totally optional in the pattern but i'm friggin obsessed right now.

so anyway, the pattern, yes?

Materials :

soft WW yarn (about 2-3 oz)

US aluminum size F hook

scissors

ch 43

1) dc in 4th ch from hook and in each of next 4. make V stitch (dc, ch1, dc) in next st. dc in each of next 6 sts, make V stitch in next. dc in each of next 12 dc, V stitch in next. dc in each of next 6 sts, V stitch in next. dc in each of last 6 sts.
2) turn, ch3 to count as first dc. dc in each dc, V stitch in each ch1 space.
3-5) repeat Row 2
6) turn, ch3 to count as first dc, dc in each dc up to the first ch1 space. dc in ch1 space. skip across all the next dc's to the 2nd ch1 space, dc in ch1 space and in each dc across to 3rd ch1 space. dc in ch1 space, skip across all the next dc's to 4th ch1 space. dc in ch1 space and in each remaining dc. this makes the arm holes
7) now instead of turning, make a slip stitch to bride the last stitch of the previous row to the first ch3 of the same previous row. ch3 to count as first dc and you will now be working in rounds.. dc in each dc around, join with sl st to top of beginning ch3.
8-15) ch3, dc in each dc around, join with sl st to top of beginning ch 3.
at end of round 15 do not fasten off
work 1 round of crab stitch (reverse sc)
fasten off and attach yarn to neck and armholes respectively to repeat crab stitch edging process

My Friggin Update

uhh it's been a while eh? :) i been busy. school is taking a big chunk of my time even when i'm not at school... lotsa homework. but hey i'm almost done! i dunno whether to be happy or worried though. not because i can't get through it or i don't think i can get and hold a job in that area, but because i always get a "im going to be sick in my stomach for a couple weeks regardless of my capabilities and the actual effects of change" feeling when things for finally actually do change. like when i first moved here i didn't tell anybody but i thought everyday i was gonna have a heart attack or an aneurysm and fall over dead. yeah. k so i'm a weirdo, but we already knew that.

anyways also besides school being almost done, paulie and i moved from that detestable "apartment" behind the salon... the salon wasn't even there when we moved. the "landlady" let the sewer backup and the pipes remain unfixed for a week, so the lady who was renting the building for business up and left. well, of course. we at that time were in the process of getting the heck out of there. and we moved to an awesome place with a pool and tennis courts and a playground, where the maintenance people actually do stuff instead of snoop around uninvited and unannounced, banging on stuff and sawing things on into the night. also now we dont have to worry about running over high school and middle school kids who like to "skateboard" in our friggin driveway even though they don't: a) live there, or b) know how to skateboard.

i think now is a great time for some pictures!

here is a dress i made while in school, on a doll i got at the dollar store. it's crochet and i never wrote out the pattern.. that bulge in there is a panty under her dress that was too big so i nixed it later

this is a baby sweater i made before we moved, it's supposed to be for my mom's friend's baby but i'm not sure if she ever gave it to her.. the pattern is one i found online, i'll have to look on my desktop (on laptop now) later and link it. Here it is! it's from Deb's Crafts page :)

here's me and paulie at culver's. this was moving day i think, and we took my mom to eat.. guess what she got? FRIES!! and then she ate them like a little bird... that's why i had to hold her down and force feed her a nice big steak that night

this is the day after we started, we went to Sammy's, a Chicago style hot dog place in Wisconsin. it was very cool and the hot dogs were awesome

here's me and paulie being cute. we had just got all the boxes and furnitures in and found a spot with ok lighting :)

ya, we felt pretty good about getting it all unloaded finally

then they decided we needed new carpet :) wahooo! lol. this isn't how it looked when we moved in (lol that would be crazy) this is after they tore up the old carpet before we got nice new one.

i made a baby version of the Kinda-Slouch hat :) by accident. when i saw how cute it was i couldn't unravel it. the brimmy thing is stretchy so i'm thinking it would probably fit a baby from birth/few months to a year. depending on the stretch o' hat and the size o' head.

i used US size 9 dpn's (set of 4) and a tiny bit of Caron Simply Soft. i apparently had forgotten that i told myself not to use this yarn for knitting because it snags on friggin everything. but its soft and cute so i dunno, fooled again.

here goes the pattern :)

cast on 45

distribute evenly onto 3 needles. (15 sts each)

join into circle (eh, triangle) being careful not to twist the stitches (because that will give u a sort of hare-lip or curtain effect which supersucks)

work in (k1, p1) around, this makes the moss stitch pattern. do this for about an inch or an inch and 1/2

switch to stockinette stitch, which is just plain knitting around.

on the second round of knitting, start the increases. there are only 2 rounds of increases & they are identical:

*(k1, m1) 3 times. knit thru to the last 4 sts on needle and work (k1, m1) 3 times. knit last stitch on needle*, repeat from * to * 2 times more.

after both rounds of increases you will have 81 stitches total

continue to work evenly in stockinette stitch until hat measures total of about 7 inches or more.

then start the decreases :

1. (k next 7 sts, k2tog) around

2. (k next 6 sts, k2tog) around

3. (k next 5 sts, k2tog) around

4. (k next 4 sts, k2tog) around

5. (k next 3 sts, k2tog) around

6. (k next 2 sts, k2tog) around

7. (k2tog) around

at the very end you will have only 3 sts total. slip these onto one needle and knit them together. i put an extra sl st after the k3tog cuz it made a soft point and also reinforced the closure of stitches.

fasten off yarn, weave in ends.

10/10/2011 -- I made this hat intending it to fit a 2 year old child, but people are coming up with a much smaller size. While my version fit its victim snuggly, different hands create in different sizes. This pattern was posted for fun and for free, after I made it for one specific child with no other size adjustments. I'm not a professional designer and there's no refunds on freely shared ideas, all I can say is I wanted to share, sorry that it's not perfect. **

it's supposed to be able to fit a 2 yr old, but i don't have a 2 yr old on hand to see if it really does :) i usually don't care if nobody comments on my posts but it would be helpful to me if those who try this hat would tell me what size it actually is. anyways here's the pattern (crochet!!!)

Materials used:

1 or 2 oz of WW yarn (i used caron one pound)

Size I hook (i used US size aluminum)

Hat:

ch 2

1- make 8 sc in 2nd ch from hook. join with sl st to top of first sc.

2- make 2 sc in each sc around. join with sl st to top of first sc. (16 sc around)

20- work one row of reverse sc.

What's been going on

ive never really sized anything for anyone else besides myself, my mom (my size) and paulie (he's right there to measure when necessary). but i am in the process of making a hat for my almost 2yr old god daughter/cousin. hehe. i just scaled down a school age kid hat and hopefully it fits :)

the day before yesterday we were involved in a car accident :( this is paulie's poor car in the pictures below. he was picking me up from Cousin's Subs (where i went to eat after school) and a car full of 20somethings and/or teens coming out of a Kmart parking lot slammed into us

all those lights are busted.. there was glass and plastic all over the street. we were going 10mph and when they hit us the car spun about 90 degrees. and then they decided to keep driving, but paulie jumped out of the car to grab their license number and they decided to spin around and come back.

before the cops came the kids in the back seat hurried up and left, and the driver switched seats with the passenger. they didn't have insurance, and their info was incorrect on their ID's (the cop asked and i have ears so i heard lol). the driver claimed she was sliding on ice.. but the car hit us very hard, they were accelerating actually.

so paulie has to get his car fixed, luckily he has insurance and the other driver was at fault.

and that's what's been going on :)

Kinda-Slouch (a knitted hat)

i made this hat :) this is the "goofing around pretending to be stereotypically french by attempting to tilt my hat at a 'jaunty' angle...

a kinda slouchy hat can also be worn a-la-ragamuffin, especially if you have cute eyeballs over which the hat can float. and you will not be scrolling down in vain, i promise you a pattern at the end of this rainbow...

that hand is as much a mystery to me as it is to you..

the back

this is the one that should have been at the top if i'd been paying proper attention.

i used caron simply soft (like 2 or 3 oz from a 6 oz skein) and US size 8 dpn's (one of 15 pairs i got from amazon, yay!)

cast on 75

distribute stitches evenly onto 3 needles (25 each) and join into round without twisting work

work k1, p1 around, for about half an inch. you can do more if you prefer, but i did about 5 rounds. this would normally give you a rib stitch, but since you have an uneven # of stitches it will give you a moss stitch.

once you have the desired length for your "brim", start the increases like this:

(k1, m1) 7 times, working evenly across 7 sts. knit across the remaining sts on needle.

repeat for each needle, so you have 21 increase stitches.

knit across evenly for 1 or 2 rounds

repeat previous increase, so that you have 21 more increase stitches. you will now have a total of 117 stitches.

knit across evenly for about 6", so your hat will measure about 6 and 1/2" before you start the decrease. if you prefer, you can always make it longer or shorter by adding or decreasing amount of rounds.

start the decreases like this:

(k1, k2tog) 7 times, working evenly across 21 sts. knit across the remaining sts on needle.

repeat for each needle, so you have 21 decrease stitches.

continue to decrease in this way, until you run out of "remaining stitches"

then switch to (k1, k2tog) around.

you will not come up even on one of the rounds, but that's fine, just k the stitches that don't fit.

eventually you will end up with 2 sts on each needle. transfer all to one and work (k2tog) 3 times. slide the sts over to the other end of needle and k3tog the last 3 stitches.

fasten off yarn, weave in ends, enjoy hat :)

Nook Case

i made a case for my Nook ;)

paulie got it for me for my birthday, and i am struggling with paranoia about it...

i really, really reallyreally don't want to break/scuff/scratch/drop it. cuz i have a terrible history of so maiming all things electronic

my lining skills are second-hand... i cut the cloth too big and pretended i did that on purpose :)

i call it "rouching" lol. or something.

so anyway if any of u have a Nook or similar sized e-reader it's really easy to make a case (mine is crochet, i will eventually get around to making a knit one, also just as simply made)

i used an aluminum size J hook (US) and some chunky yarn because i wanted the thing to be squishy enough to protect the Nook in case it got dropped. heh.

here's what i did:

chain 16

sc in 2nd ch from hook and each across, putting 3 sc into the last sc.

then turn your work and make an sc in each of the loops on the foundation chain.

yes, you're going in a non-circular circle.

when you get to the last chain of the loopies on the foundation chain, put 2 sc's in there instead of one or three. yes, 2.

join with sl st if you prefer. i know some people don't like to join but i do because i always lose track of my rounds if i don't. stich markers, schmitch markers.. shutup.

now just keep making sc in each sc, until you have about 28 rounds. this is how many rounds my case has but yours might need more or less depending on some things that are not in my control.

fasten off when your e-reader fits inside :)

i made my lining by cutting a rectangle (if you ever took home economics or had a maternal/paternal figure that had a sewing machine, you have probably been forced/encouraged to make a pillow case for a grade or otherwise) and sewing it into a pouch.

its easier to cut one piece and fold it in half and sew up 2 sides rather than cut 2 pieces and sew them together evenly. especially if you dont have sewing pins.

...then sew the pouch into the case. that part should be done by hand and not by machine, because it will get messy.

i've gotten a few hats done for a yahoo group that i joined.. i'm kind of lurking on the edges of a chemo cap group. but other than those few things i haven't done much knitwise :( tried figuring out sleeve cuffs which was fun but i ended up ripping out all the work and using the yarn for a crochet amigurumi guy.. he still waiting for his legs :)

we're finishing up 3rd term at school. i'm happy to see it done and curious about my next classes. i hope they're fun but i won't be surprised if they're not. i had an instructor this term who is like-able as a human being but not as an instructor of a me. i wrote this and why in a review of my instructor, and then was taken out of the classroom to be confronted about my words. i don't know if this is a common practice.

i came home from school today with a brown coat instead of a black one. i don't know when the switch happened, but it's exactly the same brand and style as my black one. it's a size smaller though... and i have no idea when or how this weirdness happened. we were in the library when i finally realized it wasn't my eyes that were being stupid, the coat was really brown. i miss my black coat.

these are the cornish hens i made yesterday :) they were so cute and yummy! i washed them, slathered them in soft country crock and season-all, and baked them covered for 2 and a half hours

i like how the little wings were all tucked in :) she's well done, or her leg wouldn't be trying to come off over there lol

alright i was looking for a picture to snazz up this post but i couldnt find one...

yesterday my christmas present finally came in the mail lol. paulie got me a gift certificate for amazon.com for like a billiondy dollars. so i'll be getting some goodies in the mail :)

i found some pretty awesome stuff at amazon, i dunno, i never shopped there before but i got a crapload of books and knitting needles. it was fun looking at all the stuff people list on there too. like 1 cent toilet paper roll holders. lids to salt and pepper shakers. robotic transformer 5 inch platform heel boots to complete your mechanical outfit. rubber band balls. key thingies, you know the ones that little kids like to steal from the hardware store for no good reason except that theyr bright and circular..

and last night i got cookies. mmhmm. yummy ones. and the house is so hot inside that if i dont put them in the fridge they bake themselves over and come out all soft and melty :)

also!!! i found some yarn at the dollar store. ya, the one where everythings a dollar. it was caron bliss, and its friggin slippery. but it knits up fluffy and thick. so i'm practicing my art of hat with that stuff. pretty nice actually if you have the patience for a little bit of wriggle. its kinda reminding me of like a little wiggly hamster. so cute.

Knit Homespun Scarf

after i made the first homespun hat pictured in a previous post, i ended up making a second one because i have a tendency to misplace things and find them again at odd times :P eh.

i had some left over yarn from that skein so i decided to see if i could crank out a matching scarf.

it was a success :)

i dunno the exact amount i used but it was literally just enough. u cant see this in the pictures but since the homespun has a thick and thin thing going on with it, the scarf has a repeating wavy hourglass shape to it. very cute

i used size 13 needles (i dont have regular straights so i just used 2 dpn's and was careful not to let them slip off the end)

basically i just cast on 20 and knit until the yarn ran out, which was fortunately a long enough size to wrap around my neck twice and tie in the front. this yarn is very stretchy and squishy, and will probably stretch with use too.

Mucho Grande

we watched that movie called resurrecting the champ, with samuel jackson, a couple days ago. was pretty good. we stole his mucho grande phrase and it's really fun using it :)

yesterday started my third term at school, we're getting more into the big stuff and even though the whole experience is still fun it somehow feels less friendly and more ehh.. rule-ish? i mean it's still friendly but they have that mom look about them like when you get in church and she looks at you with her eyeballs and says "behave". you know you better. or else. lol

and holy crap, if you do not own a pair of velour lounge pants go friggin get you some and put them on. cuz .. yes. dont get the smooshy walmart kind with the giant seam on the inside thigh, go to like at least k-mart and get something sturdy, where the velvety stuff is short enough that you can't pick out pieces of it with your fingers. srsly omg.

i just saw a huge dead bug on my windowsill and now i cant stop staring at it. its right next to my flower pots! and what the heck is a bug doing getting in my house and dying?! lol i mean shutup. i mean it's winter, there shouldnt be any bugs out braving the cold. it is a gigantic looking thing too, like a locust or something. ewwww.

i made this hat with size 13 dpn's and a lil bit of homespun

it was kinda a pain to work with at first but after a few rounds it got easy

this hat is so squishy and soft i think if i was a small child i would fall asleep in it on a short car ride.. i dunno. so anyway here's the pattern

(oh yeah it's also super stretchy, it will fit an adult or a child. also, if you want a thicker hat you could use 2 strands at once)

cast on 36 and distribute evenly onto 3 needles (12 sts each). join without twisting yarn

knit evenly for 6 and 1/2 to 7 inches

decrease rounds for crown:

1. (k 4, k2tog) around

2. (k 3, k2tog) around

3. (k 2, k2tog) around

4. (k 1, k2tog) around

5. (k2tog) around

k2tog around until there is only 1 stitch on each needle. then move all stitches onto one needle and k3tog. pull tight! and make sure there is no (or very minimal) opening at the top.

fasten off yarn, weave in ends.

Knit Tassel Hat

cuz i have no skills on this blogger thing.

this is my tassel hat :) i made it last night ya.

it's almost identical to the Elana hat, except i measured way better, and the decreases are different... and theres a friggin i-cord with a tassel on it. awesome. oh ya, and i did it entirely on size 8 dpn's :)

i used jamie classic yarn (less than one skein) in Lilac

and US size 8 dpn's (set of four)

some scissors for the total of 2 (or 3 or 4) snips

and my cell phone (didn't have a piece of cardboard to wrap the yarn around for the tassel.. it worked out fine)

cast on 90, distribute evenly among three needles (30 stitches each)

join without twisting (it's not hard but i did have trouble initially.. i just always make sure the foundation ridge thing is facing me on each needle now)

also, i leave my tail out so i dont have to use a stitch marker, then sew it up after the hat is done.

work k1, p1 rib for 1"

switch to stockinette, which is just plain knit stitches around.

do this until the whole piece measures about 6"

i did my decreases kind of, well, not unevenly but sporadically? maybe. here's what i did:

decrease rows:

round 1: k 8, k2tog, around.

round 2: k 7, k2tog, around.

round 3: k 6, k2tog, around.

round 4: k every stitch around.

round 5: k 5, k2tog, around.

round 6: k 4, k2tog, around.

round 7: k 3, k2tog, around.

round 8: k 2, k2tog, around.

round 9: k 1, k2tog, around.

round 10: k every stitch around.

round 11: k2tog around

continue to k2tog around until you have only 2 stitches on one needle.

make i-cord this way:

instead of turning work after k'ing the 2 stitches, slide them across to the other end of the needle and work them onto the other needle from there. pull the working yarn tight!

make i-cord as long as u want... i dont remember how many rows i did but mine is about 5 inches without the tassel.

to make tassel: wrap yarn around a flat piece of cardboard a bunch of times (example: i did 12 revolutions) tie one side- preferably the side without the beginning strand of yarn on it- with the same yarn you wrapped up. put the scissors through the yarn on the other side and cut through all the strands evenly, so the cardboard gets free and u have one side of yarn tied up in a bundle.

tie a strand around the bunch of yarns that you have (it will look more like a bell and less like a bundle of twigs). attach to i-cord.

i don't know if the tassel info is sufficient, because it's hard to describe for me without pictures... crap, i shoulda taken pictures... there are tons of instructional videos and clearer instructions online, i will have to find a good link :)

it's the neatest top of a hat i've ever had the privilege of making...

i'm not extra-good at making tassels but i gave it a try :)

i just made it up, it's very basic and i can't remember if i decreased every other row on all the decrease part...

here is a hat i made, my first adult size hat in knit. the joining on the top could have been done better but i didn't know how to do it better... it's cute.

really, i have been finishing stuff :)

i just havent gotten around to posting. i don't want to type out the patterns for these things right now so if you like one of the pics, just check back in about a couple days or a week... i'm not "busy" busy, but my brain is currently being crammed with a crapload of information and also i'm working and trying to spend as much quality time with a certain paulieface who i see for maybe a total of 2 hours a day before one of us drops off to sleep or heads to work/school.

so anyway, i went christmas shopping like this last week, and it was fun.

i bought for my mom and brothers and paulie and josh, i wasnt sure if i should pick out some things for paulie's parents cuz i dunno what they like or whatever. i know his mom likes books :) i love books. and his dad likes planty stuff and probably science or history, maybe. i guess i just got shy? but on a sunday i will take paulie out to pick some things lol. that reminds me of the santa's secret workshop from grade school, where the school would have a little store where kids could buy presents for their moms and dads without the parents knowing what they bought. i dunno exactly why it reminds me but it does.

also working on something for my cousin's baby, whose baby shower i couldn't attend cuz of both work and school.. i dunno if it will be a december baby or what cuz nobody told me anything. i just guessed, texted mom, and she said "yep, yep, and yep". and i think she's naming him jonathan? which is pretty close to the name that popped into my head right before i texted mom "who's pregnant?", julian. eh. so i'm getting rusty :)

i know it's something little-tiny, but...

a couple days ago i had a look at my phone bill, and saw that it was about 20 dollars over the usual amount, which isnt a lot but every dollar counts for something. lunch for the week or the bus if it's too cold out to walk. i'm not able to save very much because of school kind of taking over the work week and the work week becoming less and less days.

so anyway, i was dreading having to call the phone company to get my bill adjusted because nobody ever listens to me. like seriously and especially on the phone because i sound like a child, so i will usually have to spend hours trying to get something fixed whereas an irrate grownup voice might make people jump a little quicker. honestly my angry voice just sounds cute.

i havent had time to call the company because of my schedule, but i was going to today before school and i can't believe i just paused VCY America on my audio but wow i couldn't think with that lady's voice in my head (she sounds very nice but it was pulling my brain apart and making a short story long by hindering my concentration on PRAISE)

so anyway i was going to call today but i just got it in my head to look at my bill so i would be able to tell them exactly what the name of the charge was that needed to be taken off... and all these days i have been praying to God to give me the patience and the strength to deal with phone people, and also to be able to use the right words so that they know that i know what im talking about... and...

my bill amount had already changed!

it was in fact a negative balance!

this was my brain upon seeing the info---> oh. wow. YES!!!

and i'm reminded, as apparently i must be, daily, once again... that God is wonderful. He takes care of me in even the smallest most insignificant-to-others-except-me ways, and He's the only one who can reach right in and pull out my whole heart, just rip it out completely and the only thing i feel is sweetness.

this is me sighing.
first term is over at school, and yesterday i had my first class of second term.
that's not the problem. i love medical terminology, and i'm not saying that sarcastically. i think i'll do very well in both classes. medical terminology and body structure and function... i've done them before. ya, once upon a time i wasn't some retail slave with no monies. i used to be smart and educated (got my CNA and pharmacy tech certification) but then the stupid monster ate my brain and i did very bad things for a while.
and it's not the "shaping up" that's getting to me either. it's weird maybe, but i think it's the fact that i don't know whats going to happen day to day.
like, the school is awesome but the online portal only gives you the schedule for the week, and screw the rest. also, the only calendar i have gotten EVER (related to the school and it's operations or whatever) was from the librarian for the library hours. that was a whole month placemat looking thing.
and this kind of thing never bothered me before, because God knows i'm not a planner, i'm a make it up as i go, doesnt matter if i know what im doing or not, type of person. i just go, i just do, and it has always been good. and it has always been good enough. i think... omg.
i think it's paulie's influence. !!! ah!! my brain is exploding...
he loves planning, and calendars and schedules. i hate those things. but i made a google calendar and signed up for google docs, because he freaked out pretty much when he didnt know what was going on on what day and when. so i facilitate the lives of those i love in any way i can, you know, short of wiping their booty if they're grown enough.
but i think by doing these things i've warped myself somehow.
i mean normal people have calendars and stuff and they don't go insane, but i should probably tell you i'm not a normal person. i thrive on chaos and disorder. and apparently
my brain is dying by calendar.
hehe.
i feel better now that i figured it out, i just need to chill.
so anyway, we're whizzing over thanksgiving by the seat of our pants :) i dunno what we'll do for christmas but i would like to see my family a little. last year i only saw my mom for about an hour, then we went to paulie's parent's, who took us to his sister's house which was full of foreign (to me) stuff. probably a typical american christmas, but it was... umm...
boring. with cheeses on platters. and children playing instruments badly. and funny looks from white people who think they are open-minded but are wondering worriedly about the little brown girl in the corner. and funny (not good funny) sibling hatred which is physically palpable but completely ignored by everyone else in the room. i dunno, my family isn't like that. they're not perfect but they don't smell like cheesebreath. and there was no music. that killed it.
oh yes, i forgot. i'm going to try the friggin slow cooker! hopefully it is as easy as so many people say. i would like to be able to make like a stupid pot roast or something, just to do it.
i'm also working on a knit hat, which is based on two hats (which coincidentally are very similar) by Bev Q (i can't spell her last name without copy and pasting it) who has that cool website that's centered around making stuff for preemies oh i should put that link on my list! ... and another nice lady that i can't remember her name (sorry nice lady! i like your hat!)
and i'm trying to make my cousin something for her baby, but i keep starting and ripping it out, cuz i havent really decided what it is yet :P i'll get it done by december i hope

Stripey Hat with Brim

i made this hat with an aluminum size I hook (US), using Red Heart Super Saver. i don't really like this yarn, but i recently just got a crapton of it after a visit to my mom's house. rescued yarn i was determined to make rescue-able :) i used less than one skein of either color. you can use one color or stripe as much as you want obviously, but either way it will be less than a skein you use.

the brim i made and then thought it was too floppy so i cut a piece off of the back of my spiral notebook at school, it's one long piece folded in half and then sewed up. the crab stitch lining actually closes up the ends of the brim, and the most difficult part of making this hat is probably either cutting the cardboardy stuff or crab stitching the long part of the brim. blech. it was easy but i'm naturally complainy about friggin everything.

super easy, super fun, all you need to know is SC, Reverse SC or crabstitch, SL ST, and how to weave yarn in and out between stitch holes lol. color changes are easy, don't ever be intimidated by stupid crap. also, practice makes awesome :)
Pattern Below!!! (pattern is for hat in pic with exact stripeys)

with first color, ch2

make 4 sc in 2nd ch from hook. join to top of first sc with sl st. (4 sc around)
ch1 (this never counts as a stitch and you will always work the first sc in the same st as joining.) 2sc in each sc around. join with sl st to top of first sc. (8 sc around)
ch1, make (sc in sc, 2sc in next) around. join with sl st to top of first sc. (12 sc around)
ch1, make (2sc in each sc) around. join with sl st to top of first sc. (24 sc around)
ch1, make (2sc in sc, 1 sc in each of next 2) around. join with sl st to top of first sc. (32 sc around)
ch1, sc in each sc around. join with sl st to top of first sc. (32 sc around)
ch1, make (sc in each of next 3 sc, 2sc in next) around. join with sl st to top of first sc. (40 sc around)

thru 21. ch1, sc in each sc around. at end of round 21, fasten off first color. (you do not have to fasten off, you can leave the first color hanging until you finish each row, and carry it up in your finishing sl st until you need it)

work 2 rounds evenly in second color, fasten off. you have 23 rounds
work 3 rounds evenly in first color, fasten off. you have 26 rounds
work 2 rounds evenly in second color, fasten off. you have 28 rounds
work 2 rounds evenly in first color, do not fasten off. you have 30 rounds

to work brim, do not turn yet. with first color still attached, sl st about 22 stitches, keep it loose but neat so the hat can stretch but not look wobbly. in the 22nd stitch about, ch1 (remember the ch1 never counts as a stitch)

sc in each of next 26 stitches. you can do more or less depending on the width of brim you want. i made 26 though. ch1, turn.
make about 11 rows (again depending on your preference if you want a short or long brim you can add or subtract rows). make sure the last row you work is going the same direction your first row went, away from the sl st's of the brim start.
fold brim in half without fastening yarn off. your working yarn loop will be by the outside edge of the hat.
sl st into same st as last sc of first row of brim. it sounds kinda confusing maybe but it makes sense, break it down slowly if you have to. you're basically folding and tacking without sewing the short ends of the brim.
sl st evenly along edge of hat, all the way around until you get to stitches that already have sl st's in them. fasten off yarn and weave in ends.

now you will attach the second color to the same stitch as joining, or if you carried the yarn over, huzzah, and grab it. ch 1,

make reverse sc (crab stitches) all along the hat evenly. when you get to the brim, you will work up the unsewn side (thus sewing it together) evenly, then working the needle through the holes of row 6 or 7 (again, evenly. don't worry about making the "3sc corner stitch" or whatever, put one stitch in each hole so the edges get rounded slightly) then work down the other short edge and around the rest of the hat. fasten off yarn and weave in ends.

to make the brim more solid, cut a piece of cardboard or paperboard, make slightly smaller all over than the actual crochet brim, and stick that in the little pocket. (look under your hat, you made the brim a pocket- tah-dah!)

then using first color strand of yarn, sew the opening shut using a weave-y technique so the pattern stays smooth.
and voila, a stripey hat for you :)

Elana Hat

this is my first knitted hat! wahoo!!!
i started it without checking my gauge.. heheh.. shutup.
i used chunky premiere yarn in oatmeal color and my friggin bamboo circular needles (US size 8, 16")
i heard they will/might split but i don't care, i love them anyway...
and some size 8 dpn's for the top decreases
since i didn't check my gauge the hat came out in a toddler size. ya. neato.
so anyways if u want a cute toddler hat here's what i did to make mine :)

cast on 76
(and ya i counted my rounds lol, i will give measurements in case we don't match)

1-9. k2, p2 rib. this is about 5 centimeters

10-31. k every stitch. this is about 9 centimeters, 14 centimeters total

transfer the stitches onto 3 dpn's, they won't come up even, one needle will have 1 more stitch than the others.

32. (k 4, k2tog) around. you will end up going into the next round since there arent enough stitches for this pattern. don't worry about it :)

33. (k 3, k2tog) around.

34. (k 2, k2tog) around.

35- however long it takes u to get a tight point. (k 1, k2tog) around.

the whole hat will be about 19-20 centimeters long, you wont need to bind off because you will keep k2tog til there are no more stitches to work. cut the yarn and weave in the ends.

Aqua Skullcap

cute, no?;) i made this hat with the same yarn as the Mimi one, same hooks too. it used about half a skein of Bernat Satin, which surprised me. So in case you haven't seen the Mimi post, i used 2 crochet hooks- one aluminum US size I for the body and one aluminum US size G for the ribbing. ya, its ribbing on the bottom eh.

you maybe can't really see it in the pics but i did a row of crab stitch? reverse sc, as an edge for the ribs. i used to couldn't do that... looking at that statement makes me realize how stupid it is lol. i couldn't do that before, i just learned a couple years ago from a book, you just go left to right instead of right to left and it gives u a cool twist that you can lose the loose end in easily when you're done. i made the crab stitch round with the I hook cuz i didn't like how tiny the stitches were with the other hook.

the pictures are to show you that this is a SKULL cap lol. it fits snuggly and it reaches just over the tops of my ears. i guess if you wanted a longer hat you could just add more rows to the body after the crown, in which case you would need more than half a skein of yarn. ok! so the materials again:
1 half skein of Bernat Satin solid color
1 aluminum US size I hook (for hat body)
1 aluminum US size G hook (for hat brim)
scissors (one snip eh)

with larger hook, ch2

19. switch to larger hook again and make a row of crab stitch (reverse sc) evenly around. i don't join at the end of the round for crab stitch i just make a sl st in the same spot as the first crab stitch and fasten off the yarn, then i weave the yarn around so that it goes in a circle around the last round.

this is my cute brother jose holding his trophy of a hose ;) he's in the marines and is a firefighter. i don't have the whole story on the trophy but THEY WON! woooooo!!!! i'm so proud

these are my niece and nephew :) ninook(right) and zeus(left). they're both akitas but doesn't ninook look fluffier and zeus look kinda more scrunchy-nosed? they are beautiful

here's me! and paulie's arm lol. we are at steak n shake. they took a crapload of better pics (we went on a collective "visit the parents" trip to Illinois on Sunday) with more people than me in them but this is the only pic i got from my mom. hmph. stingy

we went to a movie after steak n shake. we were trying to go to an earlier show but showed up LATE so we had to wait for an hour for the movie we wanted. this is paulie starting a Peggle game on his phone for us :)

Mimi Hat

took me a lil longer than it should have to finish this hat. it's very simple and only uses sc stitches and sl st to join. i named this hat after one of my aunts :) because it's made in a vibrant color and its simple stitches create a beautiful pattern with a soft drape. it's elegant and practical (i.e. warm as heck)

Materials:
1 skein of Bernat Satin (i used the color Aqua)
aluminum US size I hook (for hat "body")
aluminum US size G hook (for hat brim)
scissors! (ya, you will have to make 2 whole snips)
optional: yarn needle (for neat pretty seam on brim)

Pattern:
with I hook, ch2

1. 10 sc in 2nd ch from hook, join with sl st to top of first sc. (10 sc around)
work in BL ONLY always.

2. ch1 (which never counts as a stitch), 2sc in each sc around, join with sl st to top of first sc. (20 sc around)

3. ch1, sc in same st as joining, 2sc in next sc. work (sc in next sc, 2sc in next) around. join with sl st to top of first sc. (30 sc around)

4. ch1, sc in same st as joining and in next, 2sc in next sc. work (sc in each of next 2 sc, 2sc in next) around. join with sl st to top of first sc. (40 sc around)

if you have a smaller or larger head, adjust rows accordingly :) try to end with an even number row so that it looks uniform when you sew it all up (which is the next step!)
DO NOT FASTEN OFF yet (if you did... meh, you can always just join the yarn again)

use yarn needle to sew brim into a circular "fits around my head" headband tube.
THEN!!! fold the headband in half lengthwise, so the thickness is doubled but it still fits around your head. sc ends together. don't use sl st because you will need the sc's there to work on.
join with sl st to top of first sc.

remember you're working in BL ONLY
work 2 more rows of sc around the headband (still using G hook), increasing evenly or randomly (whichever, hehe) so that you have 120 sc's around. you need to have that many so you can match the first part of the hat to the 2nd part.

MATCH seam to seam the 2 parts. it's easy if you stick the hat body RS facing into the WS facing headband and sl st together.
once you have stitched everything together, fasten off yarn and weave in ends. just flip the brim up and you have the Mimi Hat!

yesterday i decided that the yarny store is friggin off limits... no more yarny store til next MONTH! :) there. i put my foot down.
everytime i go there i spend at least 80 dollars :( and i never go there when i dont have the money but holy craps. like, no wonder i used to order mill ends online. i have a strange addiction to yarn :)(: which i'm sure every knitter/crochetier/fiber arts junkie can relate to. but i just recently got kind of picky actually. i've never been picky with yarn. it must be the K word (in case you're not hip to the scene i recently started knitting, after being strictly and exclusively a crochet nut). just sayin', cuz that's the only change in my diet.
ohhh yeah i gotta blog about my superawesome new circular knitting needles :) i have like two sets already but theyr aluminum. this pair is bamboo! !!!
omg. i've been bamboozled. i have NEVER knitted or crocheted with anything other than aluminum or plastic (remember, i'm cheeeeeap) but i "splurged" and got bamboo circs cuz they were the only ones in the store that were 16" around (i know, excuses excuses). they smell nice. they FEEL nice. they friggin GLIDE through all my yarns and yeenings (i tested them on literally everything i have). wow. and now for a pretty bad pic!

so lol on another topic, school is fun. funfunfun. i have school 4 days a week, 2 classes each term, 5 weeks a term, in an 11 month program (ya icky math eh). and i like both my classes.
in one i learn all about computers, like everything in and around them including the intarwebz and cool programs like Microsoft Office Word. Word. they're teaching me how to manipulate document-y and presentation-y stuff superprofessionally so i can get paidddd. i like that.
in the other one i learn how to succeed. yep. 100%.
we focus on feeding our brains the way they like to be fed so they can process crap and make it relative to the stuff thats already in there. it's a fun class for me but like everybody else in the class thinks its a boring waste of time. i love boring wastes of time, for reasons unknown even to me.
every day that i go to school i bring my knitting to work on during breaks lol. i haven't forgotten about crochet, i'm still working on a couple of my projects, but with crochet i always find myself needing to write my directions out (i don't usually use patterns) and then obsessing about something or other. with knitting i can just "work in pattern stitch for __ inches" and i dont have to count my rows because honestly i think your eyeballs are in danger of falling out of your head every time you try to count knitted rows. i dunno there might be ppl who disagree but that's how i feel.
i found that little monkey hat that i had made for paulie's sister's kid, and i turned it into a shopping bag. would we consider that recycling? or just frogging? it made me a little sad to think that i had actually made something for that girl. it wasnt honestly for her child, it was for her so she could put it on her child geez no baby goes around happy to be in a hat. or in clothes either in some cases. pity and prayer, but nothing will ever leave my hand to fall into hers. not because i'm mean but because in the heart of my mind i know this:
anything that is not given in love should never be given at all. especially a thing which is made with hands. it carries all the blessings of the Creator, and all the faults of the created.

I'm The Kid With The Huge Backpack...

again :(
i can't believe it but i guess there's no escape...
when i was in HS i was that kid with the superheavy backpack and always had said backpack strapped to my back... aww man.
it had everything in there. food, extra clothes, soap, screwdriver, car jack, jumper cables lol
i'm starting my first day of college today and i packed my bag (only with books!)
and it weighs a ton, and it makes me look EXACTLY the same way i looked in high school. minus the huge hair down to my knees and slightly askew black frame eyeglasses :)
i kind of resent the fact that when the bag's just laying there it looks kinda floppy and innocent... and then when i PUT IT ON it swells up and magically adds 50 pounds to itself somehow.
Aaanyways i'm excited to be going :) to school. i think this is the first time i've ever been excited to go there.

Besides that, i think i have some cute pictures

the one on the left is a sweater (duh) whose pattern is called "Chickiedoodles"... i didnt want the chickies. the picture on the right is from paulie on his way either to or from work. pretty and scary at the same time :)

Oh also i've been working on my knitting! lol shutup, i've rationalized that knitting is also yeening so it still pertains to the whateveryoucallit of this blog. yes.
and i'm doing pretty good i think. i joined this beginners knit group on Ravelry and the girl who runs it puts up links to easy patterns (of which i've only done 2 but thats because the first one wasn't free {i'm cheeeeeap} and the fourth one scared me with all the pointy sticks you need to make it {but once i get over my fear ITS ON, little toy monkey!}) which is awesome.

He's the first ami i have ever put "real" eyes on :)
he has no mouth though, but i don't mind.
i used 2 skeins of peaches n creme cotton, i'm in a red phase right now cuz i have a lot of red yarn in my stash.
and i also used and aluminum size G hook (US) those clover hooks take time to get used to but they do make a pretty stitch
a yarn needle is great too, i mean i used to be like "why do i need that when a crochet hook will weave in and out of the work just fine?" but.. a lil straight needle is a lot neater and faster working than a crochet hook. you are gonna have to sew this guy up, and he's gonna have stuffed parts that might bleed stuffing if it's not done neatly. just leave long ends on all your finished body parts and you can thread and sew away on the final step.
The Body:
ch2
1. 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. join with sl st to top of first sc. (6 sc around)
2. ch1, 2sc in each sc around. (i guess here i will note that i never count my first "ch1" as a stitch) (12 sc around)

i finished this hat yesterday morning but hadnt gotten to post the pattern because of horrendous work hours :) it's made of peaches n creme cotton and i'm not sure if its the result of tight crocheting or cuz the yarn is stiff.. but the hat is kinda.. well not the squishy kind. it's not unyielding but it's definitely got self esteem.

i used about one and a half skeins i think :) i took a weird "over the head to the side" pic to show the shape of the hat while i was wearing it.. lol it turned out hilarious as you can see but i think it's cute. anyways you have to have like 5 eyes to see it the way it is in the picture. ok pattern is under the next pic, promise :P

i used hooks sized H and G (US), aluminum. it fits my head closely but not tightly. a note- wear this hat high and pushed up on your head, so it feels like a headband before you push it all the way up.

A Crochetier's Confession

i, mari, lifelong "i only do crochet" -er.. have been ....
knitting.
yes, i know. it's a shock. i'm shocking.
i've said before that crochet felt like expression and it still does
and ive also said before in the same statement that knitting felt like work
but i think i changed my mind.
weird, i know, but i totally did.
it must be my attitude :) also it feels like a sort of rhythm or beat, that i finally heard and felt and was able to follow along with. it's not like crochet, because everything is flat when you make it and even after you make it. it has to be assembled, which a lot of people might not like. i find myself not minding.
i've only made 2 things, and one of those is flat lol and neither of them are excellent, but both of them are flawed. and it's perfect.
i enjoy knitting, and that is this crochetier's confession.

My Curly Clown

This is my version of a clown my mom used to make. She winged them (meaning she made them up as she went) so there was no pattern. i know that she used sc for the arms and legs but i'm lazy and i like things fast, so i used dc. when she saw him in person she was like "he's so skinny!" lol. my version was on a diet, and he's also apparently smaller than the ones she made. oh well.
you'll need stuffing, like a couple fists full
i used one ball of peaches n creme cotton and an aluminum size G hook (US) for the body
for the hat i used the same hook but different yarn, it was like baby weight yarn. took for friggin ever to get the hat done cuz i had to work so much over the past couple days... :)
also the hat is different in my version. my mom's was more pointed nightcap looking with a pompom on the end, and it had a ruffle on the brim as well as around the neck.

SO!! here goes. i started with the arms. (make 2)

ch 30
- dc in 4th ch from hook.
4dc in each ch across to last ch.
dc in last ch.
Fasten off yarn.
(the yarn curls/ruffles as you work, smooth it in the direction you want)

NOW!! the legs. (make 2)

ch 40
- dc in 4th ch from hook.
4dc in each ch across to last ch.
dc in last ch.
Fasten off yarn.

AND!! the head. (make one ;) )

ch 2
- 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. join with sl st to top of first sc.

- ch1, 2sc in each sc around. join with sl st to top of first sc.

you can paint on your face or embroider it (i tried that even though i sucked at it). or u can get those safety eyeballs that i've seen and admired but could totally not afford.

THEN!! the hat. i did mine in baby yarn and will give my pattern for it but you can totally use other thicker yarn with a few less rounds from the pattern.

But i'm not in a hurry cuz he's not done yet.
i posted about him on Ravelry.. (ya, i finally joined, mostly to look at pictures)
he's inspired by my mom's original "pattern", which she never wrote out lol, and which she made a friggin ton of when i was a little girl. ok, friggin ton is an exaggeration.
but my version has a creepy sad but smiley face, since i suck at embroidery. his eyeballs look like super-eyebrows, no?
i'm not done with his hat i'm gonna take my work to work lol, and try to finish it there. and maybe i'll add the ruffle around his neck like my mom's clowns had. i dunno.
i realized long ago that i can't make myself too ambitious or i'll never do what i want to do because the thought would get too overwhelming. yeah, weird.
so anyways, ok. i'll post on the progress!

Wahoo!!! (oh yeah)

yesterday paulie shows up to pick me up from work, like he usually does. before i'm off the clock he's asking if i want to go to a new restaurant that recently opened. and i'm like cool cuz i love food. so we go, it's a place called Rio West Cantina, very cute and cozy without being too small. and omg they have delicious food. i had a chimichanga and paulie had a shrimp burrito MmMMmMmm everything on that plate was good. after we finish eating i go (cuz im stupid i dunno) "so you didnt have like a coupon to come here or something?" cuz paulie loves coupons. lol. and he's like "why u think that? just cuz i like coupons i always gotta have one?" and i was like awww he's my cute.
so we get boxes to put our delicious left overs in, and paulie goes "hold on i have something for you" and im like O.o? while he goes to the car and i wrestle with the rest of my chimichanga.
he comes back with a shiny red box with a ribbon around it... i love red. and i love shiny. it's about the size of a book, so i'm like "... it's not my birthday... anniversary? no, it's too warm.."
so i'm opening it and theres just a crapload of tissue on either side of a tiny hard lump wrapped in more tissue. it is a box. inside of another box. inside of which is a RING! :O i know like u couldnt tell from the pic what was gonna happen lol.
and he's on his knee with his big cutey eyeballs looking at me :*) he says "i was wondering if you'd wanna marry me" and i was like ...duh... but i said YES not duh. of course.
so i put on my ring (yay) and it was too big so we have to get it sized on monday ;)

i just finished this hat.. excuse my face :)
i used a small amount of yarn from a Caron One Pound skein, i'm not certain how much, maybe 2 to 4 ounces? the color is Cream 589 and it made me think of my mom.
the skein was sitting there begging me to make a hat with it, so i did. it was very simple. very very simple. it looks much better and less like a washerwoman's head-dress if you wear it high and tilted on your head and close to the hairline, almost like a headband.
here's the pattern ;)

Materials:
WW yarn (i.e. Caron One Pound. Simply Soft is too thin and will result in a hat for a tiny head.)

1. 9 dc in 4th ch from hook. Join with sl st to 3rd ch of beginning ch4. (10 dc)

2. ch3 to count as first dc. dc in same st as joining. Make 2 dc in each dc around. Join with sl st to top of beginning ch3. (20 dc)

3. ch3 to count as first dc. dc in same st as joining and in next. Make (2dc in next dc, dc in next) around. Join with sl st to top of beginning ch3. (30 dc)

At end of Row 76, do not fasten off. Instead, ch1 and work 90 sc's evenly along long edge of strip. This is the side that will attach to the bottom of the hat.

Turn hat inside out so WS of work is facing you. Also turn cuff so WS is facing out towards you.
Sl st cuff to hat evenly.
Sew short ends of cuff together while it is still inside out so that the seam won't show when you turn it right side in.
Cut yarn and weave in ends neatly.

Here is a picture of the hat without a head in it :)

Sooo yeah, i guess i'm finally a college girl ;)
(i'm excited) it's exciting (i'm excited)
i've been working on my own socks.. like as in figuring out how to crochet socks with actual sock yarn... i made paulie go with me to the yarny store after we had dinner cuz it was close by a couple days ago. and i found some awesome sock yarn and now im on a MISSION. and its a red and purple variegated kind of mission.
i found out that i have no concept of "gusset" like.. what the heck is that anyway? so i think i have attempted it but quit while it was still a formulation of a thought in my head. yes. i'm almost done with one sock which means my pattern's almost done but don't get your hopes up because then i'll definitely crush them. utterly.
i'm also working indefinitely on yet another "scrap" afghan lol. it looks awesome but i discovered early that it's only for show. i draped it over me one time to see how it felt and all my toes and the tips of my knees poked out of the lil granny holes lol. ermm... decoration it is! it's fabulous. maybe on top of the "real" covers it will give some added warmth in the dead of winter? eh.

aye, blooger.
it's been a little while since i posted anything on here.. so i thought i should. even if i don't have a pattern to post :)
a lot has happened since my last post, while strangely at the same time not a lot has changed. one change though, is that i no longer have MySpace or Facebook accounts... i know right? little tear..
so i guess the yeen machine will occasionally be more talky and less yarny. (i used MySpace for blogs pretty exclusively, and Facebook i have no idea why.) so don't be surprised if instead of a good/mediocre pattern post you see a poem or dream or rant.
it had actually been a long while since i made or attempted anything in crochet. i guess that helped me not to post anything recently eh. but now i'm back on the ball i guess, doing my little dance.

Spring-y Cloche (that's a type of hat)

i had a small amount of super bright green.. i think it's Caron Simply Soft Brites, probly about 3 oz. it was such a weirdo funky color green that it had to be made into a hat for me :)
i used an aluminum size I hook (US)

Make a magic ring

1) Make 12 sc in ring, join and pull tight. (i join at the end of my rounds no matter what, since i don't mind the seam, but you don't have to)

2) Make 2 sc in each sc around. (24 sc around)

3) sc in each sc around.

4) sc in first sc, 2sc in next. (sc in sc, 2 sc in next) around. (36 sc around)

5) sc in each sc around.

6) sc in first two sc, 2sc in next. (sc in next two sc, 2sc in next) around. (48 sc around)

Cottony Soft Scrub-Me-Up

i made this out of peaches n creme cotton, i'm not sure how much since im using Mill Ends, probly a ball and a half, maybe two. and i used an aluminum size F hook (US)

now the thing about this pattern is that it's worked to fit an individual hand (mine) lol. so i'll just approximate the idea to you here :)

it starts with chaining a length thats equal to the space from your finger tips to the meat of your palm, then working rows of sc's to slightly wider than your hand is, make sure to work in back loops only. you want your scrubby thingie to be actually capable of scrubbing :) so that's why there's ridges.

i changed it up after this but only slightly. instead of sc's i started doing dc's, still in back loops. and i did this for the width of the back of my hand.

once the whole piece was capable of surrounding my hand comfortably, i sewed it up in a tube, then sewed up one of the short ends. then i took my cotton and attached it to one side of the remaining short end that wasnt closed up (making sure to attach to the edge of one side. Make sure for yourself that you put your stitches in the right place, this is the only "tricky" part but if you don't watch out you wont have a proper thumb hole). i worked along the edge of that created opening evenly in sc's. you should be able to work rows evenly in back loops (not rounds) and there should be an open space where your thumb can peek through after about 12 rows or more.

work your sc's as much as you need to cover your hand up, so that it feels comfortable on your hand like a mitten. then once you have the right length, work a few rounds in either dc or sc (whichever you are more comfortable doing, i did dc's cuz i was running out of my first ball by this point and i wanted to make sure it was long enough.)

yes i did say rounds that last time lol. to make rounds directly after your rows, work in the same way that you have, except when you get the the end of your row do not turn.
just "jump" to the other edge and start your stitches again there, going across the other "side". you'll need to join your last stitch to the first "jump" one if you're like me and can never remember your place. if you have no problem working in rounds without joining, hoorah for you lol, carry on.

now at this point you have a mitt with a thumb hole.. so of course you need to make the thumby part :P

soooo. make a chain slightly longer than the circumference of your thumb and make a small rectangle of rows of sc's. work in back loops only. mark the place (or remember how many rows) where you will sew the swuare into a tube for your thumb. now crochet more rows of sc's, it should be a lil bit longer than your thumb actually is, from the base to the tip or vice versa actually. so you will have some extra stitches that wont be sewn together, cuz those will be the stitches that you sew to the hole on the mitten, so that it can actually become a mitten.

now here's a tip: work the "body" of the thumb straight. and then when you are working the "base" which you will not stitch together, make decreases in the beginning stitches of each new row.
to make decreases this way : ch1, put hook thru first stitch and draw up a loop. put hook thru next stitch and draw up another loop. now draw up one more loop and pull that loop through the other three on the hook.

don't be scared! it's not gonna be straight, but it will be fine. start by aligning the thumb's bottom stitches to the "bottom" of the hole. use pins if you have to. this is not an exact thing, you just have to sew as neatly as possible using the stitches that you have. sew sew sew, the ends together as evenly as possible, and when you get done you will have a mitten :) yay!

Pretty Motif Thingie

well, i havent taken this off the hook yet because i keep thinking that it can totally definitely be expanded..
but also the reason im posting now it cuz dont you think this little motif thingie would look awesome joined together? like say at the points for a kinda sharp pointed hexagon beadspread or tablecloth? yes, me too.
ok so i used cotton thread, i dunno what number it is cuz its Mill Ends and there wasnt a label. but it's thicker by a lil than the size 10 (only thread ive ever crocheted with) and it has kinda a ropey feel to it, while staying super thin.
and also i used an aluminum size C hook (US)
which i know isn't really a thready hook but it's the smallest hook in my collection i could find at the moment...
Anyways, here we go:

chain 8, join with sl st to form ring.

1) ch3 to count as first dc, make 23 more dc's in ring. join with sl st to top of beginning ch3.

2) chain 1, sc in same space as joining. ch5,* skip 1 stitch, sc in next, ch5*. repeat from * to * around, ending by joining with a sl st to top of first sc. (ignore all beginning chain 1's they are not stitches)

3) sl st up to 3rd chain of first ch5 space. chain 1, sc in same stitch. ch5, *sc in 3rd chain of next ch5 space, ch5.* repeat from * to * around, ending by joining with a sl st to top of first sc.

4) sl st up to 3rd chain of first ch5 space. chain 1, sc in same stitch. ch7, *sc in 3rd chain of next ch5 space, ch7.* repeat from * to * around, ending by joining with a sl st to top of first sc.

5) sl st into first ch7 space. chain 3 to count as first dc, make 6 more dc in space, ch3, make 7 dc in same space. ch3, sl st in next ch7 space, ch3. *make (7dc, ch3, 7dc) in next ch7 space. ch3, sl st in next ch7 space, ch3.* repeat from * to * around, ending by joining with a sl st to top of beginning ch3.

Monsters of Unfinishedness and Lack of Inspiration

alright...
i've been not procrastinating, still crocheting, but kinda never getting anything done.
long ago in november i began and almost finished a doily.. wrote a note about it in the last blog.
but sadly the website i was crocheting from (no printer, saving files and making pdf's bug me) was shut down due to some goofy people violating copyright laws.
well i just looked at the doily and it is a real beauty even though its not finished... i would have liked to get it done, it woulda been my fourth ever doily :)
so what i did was i took a picture (yay) and here it is

i love those flowers. i can honestly say i had no idea what i was doing but the directions were written so well that it just pretty much formed itself.
i wanted to immortalize this thing before i tore it up to use for something else. feels like a shame. and i know i'm getting whiney but i cant help it.

so anyways im sitting in the dark trying not to mistype while staring at the screen... remembering that i also made some cell phone covers for my cell. paulie got it for me, i think lotsa ppl have seen it in commercials that they dont seem to play anymore. but its awesome. so it needed covery thingies cuz i always scuff, scratch, maul, and maim everything i own.

these are made with blue peaches n creme cotton i got from an unsecure website which caused me to be robbed blind. ya, i lost all my money and found out about it while trying to get some lunch during my first day of work in a new town... ah orientation was never so much fun. anyways here we go! i made two of them, one with a short loop on it and another with a longer strap, both in single crochet done in rounds. you know, simple stuff.

i've been half working on stuff and half wishing i could, which means i can't really get too involved in a project because i work. a lot. and if im not working i want to be doing absolutely nothing at all because im grumpy and hungry. but i have managed to take some laundry day time to start on a scarf. hopefully that gets done one of these days.

whoever's reading this, i'm honestly sorry about not being able to create or share anything awesome. i really do enjoy those things, they make me feel a certain way that i like. and a way that im not very good at explaining.

sooooo... i'll be doing my thing, hoping that i get some crochet groove going so that i feel like im back on track. lol its funny my life takes over and i feel out of it, but when i have no life im happy to sit and crochet. (im so weird)

A Post For November :P

well i haven't really quit crocheting, i just kinda slowed down. since life and work and having to get in some sleep have taken up a lot of my free time :)
i'm still working on some things... like different fingerless gloves, paulie's hat from the one movie that we saw, a scrap afghan, and i gave up on that cotton thing for now. i ran out of materials and i need to figure out how to make more with less... so i'm waiting on the blue moon for some extra thinking time.
i did make some coasters, they are rainbow sherbert colored and terrible. tiny squares of ick. and luckily no picture available :) but i will show u what i made from other people's patterns! lol
i made two doilies both from CrochetPatty.com ... the antlia doily and the aquarius doily. both excellent and quick to work up if you don't mind having to look at the picture for deeper instruction. they both finished up in about 2 to 3 days :)

here is antlia: i took the pic with my phone so it doesn't show very super good... the color is pure white but somehow the light made it turn blue

the second one is aquarius, which was harder than antlia because of pieces missing from the pattern, but the pic on the website i got it from was pretty good so i could just follow along with that at times

i think it's really cute, i had a little trouble understanding the tr tr part after the ch 6 (round 3) but then i just made a "tr that was long enough to equal the length of the ch 6 minus the top chain" lol i dunno if that makes sense but it did for me.

Chunky Yarn Hat

Ok so here goes another hat... i went to wally world with paulie for some air compressor purchasement... and they had a lot of superwarm hats there. and rather than buy an eskimo hat (they were cute but not ummm.. fashionable) i decided to make a hat of equal warmth. without the fur. lol.
this is basically the same pattern as the Winter Green Hat from a previous post, worked in chunky yarn (Bernat Softee Chunky- less than one skein) using an aluminum size J hook (US). it was fun and quick to make, the two pics make me happy even though the second one is without the extra rounds on the bottom (i put those in later cuz i tend to overstretch my hats for no reason in particular and this helps keep it the right shape and size)
Anyways here goes:

ch 31

1) sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each across. (30 sc)

2) ch1, turn. Working in Back Loops Only, sc in same st as turning and in each across. (30 sc)

3-54) repeat Row 2.

DO NOT FASTEN OFF

working across ends of Rows, make sc2tog over every 2 spaces. (there should be a space for each stitch, so you will end up with 27 stitches across)

work another row in the same way, leaving you with 13 sc2tog stitches and one sc.
Fasten off yarn, leaving a long enough tail to sew up the top. (top is part you've been decreasing on.)
sl st the side of the hat closed, make sure you weave in ends or work over them so they don't show. cuz it's a worse pain to weave them in later after the things all sewn up

turn hat inside out (this will be right side in) and attach yarn with sl st to back bottom of hat (try to get it as close to the seam as possible)

make about 2 to 4 rounds of sc along the brim, joining to top of first sc with sl st at end of each round. Fasten off yarn, weave in ends.

Commie Mitts (fingerless gloves)

Alright so maybe they're not. But they can have their raving illogical delusions sometimes. i made these in my favorite colors, which i have been teased for in the past. They work up really fast and are all sc, the thing that some people might have a *tiny* problem with is the sizing. i have thin hands and fingers, and sometimes the only store bought gloves/mittens that will fit me are a kids size (the stretchy knit kind) So if while working on this pattern you find that they look too small for yourself, it will be easy to just add a few more stitches to the foundation, and a few more rows to the body :) Here goes the pattern:

Materials:
fingering weight yarn (about 1 oz per mitt)
aluminum size E hook (US)

(the mitts in the pic are multicolored but the directions will be for just one color. this way you can stripe it up as you see fit if you want)

ch 37

1) sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each across. (36 sc)

2) ch1, turn. sc in same st as turning and in each across. (36 sc)

3-26) repeat Row 2.

Fasten off yarn,
fold piece in half and sew into a tube shape, making sure to leave a space open for the thumb.

Cuff:
ch 11

1) sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each across. (10 sc)

2) ch1, turn. in BACK LOOPS ONLY, sc in same st as turning and in each across. (10 sc)

3-24) repeat Row 2.

Fold piece in half and sew into a short tube shape. Sew to bottom of mitt.

Winter Green Hat

i recently went to Jo-Ann's (the only craft store within reasonable bus ride distance) and found some little yarn skeins on sale. They were like 1 and 3/4ths oz, which is sometimes the perfect amount to make a hat with :P so here we go!
(well.. i actually used a LITTLE bit more than one skein, so round it up to 2 oz approx WW yarn)
oh yeah and i used an aluminum size F hook (US)

ch 35

1) sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each across.

2) ch1, turn. Working in Back Loops Only, sc in same st as turning and in each across. Do Not count the first ch1 of the Row as a stitch. (34 sc)

3-62) Repeat Row 2.

Sometimes people's heads are different sizes :P sooo take the flat piece at this point and see how well it fits wrapped around your head lengthwise. If it's too small, work a few more Rows in. Too big? Vice versa.

At the end of Row 62 (or preferred) Do Not Fasten Off.
Fold piece in half Wrong Side Facing Out. Join together with sl st evenly across, so that you have a longish tube with an opening on either end.
Fasten off yarn, leaving a long tail that will be used to sew up the top.
Weave tail in and out between open spaces (between stitches) evenly, making sure that you go around the piece and not through both thicknesses at once. This will give you a kind of drawstring thingie, which you will pull REALLY TIGHTLY to close.
You may need to add a few extra stitches to make sure that it's sewed up properly.
Weave in the ends.

Optional:
You may want a neat edge to your hat by the brim, which can be accomplished with a nice even round of sc's all around. Or you could just wing it and try whatever stitch pattern you want for a personalized flare. I just left mine "natural" (lol) cuz i liked it that way.

The Blue Hat (with brim)

There are two versions to this hat, and they're not really "variations" it's just that the first one was kinda too big for my head (perfect for a big man's head or a gal blessed with some cranium) so i shortened it for the second version.
i used approximately 5 oz WW chunky yarn for the first one and probly about 3 or 4 for the second. with an aluminum size J hook (US)

Here's the first version, with notes to the second at the end:

1) 8 hdc in 2nd ch from hook. Join with sl st to top of first hdc. (8hdc)

Once you have your 2 pieces made, put them together RS facing out, join yarn with sl st to the right of the curved end. sl st that end together so you have a little pocket with the flat side open.
Cut cardboard or plastic canvas to fit nicely into pocket (i used a cereal box) and sl st shut, leaving a long tail to sew.

Sew Brim to hat by inserting the flat side under last Rounds of hat. Sew evenly to last hdc Round. Weave in ends.

SECOND VERSION:

follow original instructions to Round 19.

20) with an aluminum size F hook (US),
ch1, sc in same st as joining and in each of next 7 sts.
sc2tog over next 2 sts.
Work (sc in each of next 8 sts, sc2tog over next 2 sts) around.
Join with sl st to top of first sc. (72 sts)

Fasten off yarn. Weave in ends.

Work Brim same as original. Sew Brim to Round 18 on hat from the outside.
Fasten off yarn, weave in ends.

Paulie-Star Square

i made this up the day before yesterday on a laundry-mat trip. i usually bring my current project along to keep my brain busy while paulie is playing his DS. sometimes we look over at what the other is doing :)
anyways, i had these two colors in my bag that day and decided to just wing it. this stuff happened, and then paulie named it after himself. when i asked him if i should alternate the colors, he said Nope, cuz he likes the "star" in the middle.
i used WW yarn and an aluminum size I hook (US)

Pattern:

with first color:
ch6, join with sl st to form ring

1) ch3 to count as first dc. Make 15 dc in ring, join with sl st to top of beginning ch3. (16 dc)

Amigurumi Flower and Flower Pot

hi :) i've been working on this little flower thing for a few weeks
it came into my brain one night when i was supposed to be sleeping
i hurried up and started, and i got the whole thing done in about 2 days minus the flower petals... the flower petals took several tries, after which i just opted for the most simple of methods :)
the whole thing is worked top down in one piece, and then the leaves are sewn on, then the petals are worked right onto the top of the flower.
hope you enjoy!

Materials:
aluminum size G hook (US)
small amounts (less than 3 oz each color) of WW yarn in yellow, green, black(or brown), flower petal color of choice, and flowerpot color of choice
fiberfill for stuffing
(optional) fuzzy pipecleaners for "bendability" and structure of flower stem

Pattern:
starting with YELLOW (work in rounds. ch1 at beginning never counts as an sc)

ch2
1) 10sc in 2nd ch from hook. join with sl st to top of1st sc (10sc)

2) ch1, 2sc in same st as joining and in each around. join with sl st to top of 1st sc (20sc)

3) ch1, sc in same st as joining. 2sc in next sc. (sc in next sc, 2 sc in next) around. join with sl st to top of first sc. (30sc)

FASTEN OFF YARN, leaving a long tail for sewing hole shut. weave taol in and out between sts of last round and pull tight for drawstring effect closure. it should close neatly and evenly with no bumps.

FLOWER POT BRIM:

with FLOWER POT COLOR, join with sl st to any free loop on Round 55 (remember back loops only? this is why)

1) ch1, sc in same st as joining and in each around. join with sl st to top of first sc.

2-5) repeat round 1. fasten off yarn at end of Round 5.
weave in ends.

LEAVES: (make 4, as you will pair them up, stitch them together and lightly stuff them before sewing them onto the stem of the flower)

sew one leaf to the right on the flower stem and the other to the left.

FLOWER PETALS: (this SOUNDS complicated maybe, but it is VERY easy. you will be joining yarn to "head" of the flower and then working in rounds (2)

join FLOWER PETAL COLOR to any st on Round 9 of flower (top yellow part) with a sl st.
you should insert the hook with the flower face facing you, not through the tops of the sts but from bottom to top longways

chain 7
sc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in each of next 2 sts, dc in each of next 3 sts. join with sl st to 3rd st over on flower head. make sure u have the sts on the same Round. (flower petal made- ya, it will curl in, dont worry about that)

continue in this way around the Round. now the sts by the end will come up uneven but that's alright just work the petals in neatly.

for the second round of petals, after u have joined the first round to itself, sl st into Round 8 of the flower head, the top yellow stuff.
work another round of petals in the same way

fasten off yarn, weave in ends

now you can either paint or embroider your faces on the flower and flower pot. or you can use safety eyeballs, felt or what have you. OR you can leave it be faceless :P whatever you prefer

Slippers of Mari-ness (row 30 revised due to error)

(well here's one slipper anyway)
i made these slippers after studying up on how to go about making things for the feetses :D i saw a lot of cool patterns online for socks and slippers, and some of them actually work out really comfortably. but for some strange mari reason i wanted to get my own thing done. i appreciate all the help i got from looking things up :)
see my initial problem (i thought at first) was the heel of the footwear. how to get it to slip on without having to do all that crazy heel shaping mumbo jumbo that sock makers love so much. im a simple girl and i like things to work without me having to really think about them lol. so i took what i knew about socks and feet and slippers and crochet and applied all of it. so i came up with this pattern. im sure that there are a bunch out there that are similar but i figured i'd put out my version of simplicity, for the sake of diversity and stuff.
anyways here it goes:
i used an aluminum size J hook (US) and one 3.5 oz skein of Bernat Softee Chunky yarn
my shoe size is a womens 6 (US), i made these to fit over socks so they might be able to stretch to about a size 8 or 9 depending on the type of yarn you use and the tension in your stitches. MAKE SURE IT'S CHUNKY YARN, if not, use two strands of WW together

MAKE TWO:

ch6
1) sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each across to last ch.
Work 3 sc in last ch.
turn piece and work in free loops of beginning chain like so:
sc in each st across to last ch
work 2 sc in last ch, join with sl st to top of first sc.

2) ch1, 2 sc in same st as joining
sc in each of next 3 sc's
2 sc in each of next 3 sc's
sc in each of next 3 sc's
2 sc in each of last 2 sc's. join with sl st to top of first sc.

3) ch1, 2 sc in same st as joining
2 sc in next sc
sc in each of next 3 sc's
2 sc in each of next 6 sc's
sc in each of next 3 sc's

4-18) work in back loops only

working over the sl sts, and in front loops only:

make (sc2tog over next two stitches) consecutively until there are only 5 sts left on that Row
sc in each of last 5 sts

Fasten off yarn leaving a long enough tail to sew the heel up.

turn heel inside out and whipstitch closed.
if you whipstitch it right side un, it leaves a weird bump all along the sewed up part so i do it when its inside out.
turn right side in.

Attach yarn with sl st to top opening of slipper
Make 2 Rounds of sc's evenly around top of slipper. Fasten off yarn, weave in ends.

Go Green!

here is a cool mesh bag i made up. i posted the pattern on Crochetville already so i won't go through all the agony of typing it out again lol
i used 2 strands of yarn held together throughout the pattern, and an aluminum size I hook (US)
it works up in pretty much one piece, except for the second handle. this picture makes the colors look really washed out, it's acrually pretty vibrant green and multicolored.

As you may or may not know, September the 12th is International Crochet Day (hooray!)
So make sure to spread the word, get out your hooks and yarny stuffs and demonstrate your love for crochet! You could crochet on your break at work, in study hall at school, while waiting for the bus, while riding the bus, in the carpool, on the way to/from the grocery store, at a sporting event, while waiting for your oil to get changed or your breaks to get fixed, in the park (like me!) or anywhere! Just be sure to remain seated because we don't want anyone walking into dangerous stuff (like oncoming traffic!)
Take the time to teach any and all who are willing to crochet!
This will be only the second year for International Crochet Day, so it's probably not printed on anyone's calendar yet. But one day!!!
lol. Remember the day, and have a blast :)

Preemie Baby Dress

it was very easy and worked up in less than two hours, using very little yarn. This is perfect to make for donations to hospitals, or for doll dresses. i think mine came out a bit bigger than preemie size though. maybe newborn to three months, because the pattern calls for cotton and i used Caron Simply Soft, a worsted weight yarn.

Slacker, but not really

i really have been working on a lot of crochet, i just haven't been posting on my blog.
WHY?!?!
because i have been working on inspiration, necessity, and off of graphs. the graphs are not my patterns. the necessity makes me whip a project out and never worry about the pattern. the inspiration makes me so focused on the look of the project that i forget to count stitches. woops!
but i have been crocheting a lot :D and i have pictures!
This giant "A" thing :) has actually been in the works the longest, and it's the first one i started last month. it's a blanket! woooo!! lol
There on the right is a most beauteous of scarves. i made it to match a hat that i did in anticipation for cold weather (even though yesterday it was friggin 90 degrees! NINETY!!!! but now it's cooling down) i'm especially proud of the fringe, because i never make those. not even for my mom's scarf did i attempt a fringe. i guess i must have been a combination of "very bored" and "very determined" so yay! i win by being me :P
Here to the left is the hat in my favorite stitches, shells and sc's. it worked up easy and fast but i didn't write down the pattern because.. i was on a roll! i guess lol. if i look at it some it will be easy to get the pattern. hmmmm...
anyways it's nice and warm while being super light. i thought while i was making it that it might be too thin and floppy, but when i put it on my head my head got so hot! i was like "good! bring on the cold then" but not really because i don't enjoy winter anymore :P
And down here to the right is a hat. it was fun to make, just a buncha sc's. i saw a letter M on the internet doing a Google search and there it was in all its perfection. so i said i HAVE to crochet that! and i put it on the side of my hat. and it fits :) actually when i first decided to put it on there, i had worked evenly for so long that all that fit on it was the top half of the letter. so of course i had to rip everything out and do it again. not the circle part, just the "evenly around" part. and i dunno why but my "circles" always come out looking like hexagons.. eh. oh yeah here's a tip that i found works well for me, about not getting the strands twisted together.
i lay the skeins next to each other, next to me. and when switching colors, the closest one to me gets crocheted as is, since it will be on top of the other strand and easily accessible without twisting, without "yarn over"ing lol yarn over yarn. whatever.
and the one farther from me gets crocheted in after i "yarn under" if that makes sense. pull the yarn under the other strand so there's a slight tension, and then make the sc. i've really gotta get a picture of that in action. hmmmm..
SO... after that hat i got kinda confident and i wanted to try a filet graph as a tapestry pattern. i got this graph from about.com that was some sort of dragony sea creature thing. and i liked it a lots :D so i decided to make it. i didn't do filet because i always screw those up, plus i like colors better than holes :P
in the end stages of this project i got really tired of counting and switching and all that.. so i quit for a few hours. this is the picture showing my near defeat. lol
This on the left is what i used to ease my boiling brain. a simple hat using clusters (its breathe-able! lol) which i felt compelled to make a brim for. because then it would look cooler. yes. i made the hat oversized for a slouchy look and my boyfriend called me a Rastafari Mari, or something like that. i thougth that was funny, and just kept crocheting. i made the brim from two pieces (one green one yellow, you can't see the yellow cuz its sewn underneath the green)
i cut pieces of cardboard (actually i think its less than cardboard cuz it wasnt like a "real" box) from a frozen pizza box and put them between the two brim pieces. and voila! a brim. i didn't plan on the brim making the hat tighter though, so i had to stretch the opening a little bit. i'll keep that in mind next time i wanna make a brimmed hat.
And then i finished the dragony thingie. woooooooooooo!!! it took like four days. not working 24/7 but u know, in free time and while being a video game spectator. i'm a pro at stitching and cheering at the same time :)

oh yeah, i also made a cell phone case in the same colors as my hat. with a butterfly tapestried in the same way as the M was on the hat. but i never took a picture because i never got a button on it. even so, it holds my phone very well.

i'll have patterns soon! i hope :)

Simple Granite Stitch Purse

i made this purse while i was making all those other ones in my previous posts. somehow i forgot to get it in here.
it is a super easy purse using Granite Stitch pattern which is simply sc's and chains alternating. and it was all done in rows in one flat piece, then folded in half and sewn together. the strap is done in the same stitch and then sewed on from the inside (i used the seams as sort of stitch markers for placement)
it's made with WW yarn although it would most definitely be less stretchy in cotton or nylon or even thread (although that would give you a teeny tiny purse)
and an aluminum size F (US) hook
i would say folded up my purse body came to about 4 by 6 inches, so its a fairly small bag. definitely line this purse with cloth, because stuff will fall through the little holes in the pattern.
Anyways here is the pattern :)

Purse Body:
chain 31

1) sc in second chain from hook
(ch1, skip next chain, sc in next) across

2) ch1, turn
sc in first sc and in the ch1 space
(ch1, skip next sc, sc in next ch1 space) across

continue to work the rows in this way. when if you come up to the last sc of a row and there arent any more chain spaces, just put an sc in that last stitch

also it works the other way around. when you come to the start of a new row and the first st is an sc and the second is a chain, put an sc in both of them.

so anyways, continue in this way until you have 52 rows (or how ever many you desire)
at the end of your last row, fasten off the yarn. fold the piece in half evenly, and slip stitch the sides together. now you have a pouch (yay!)

Purse Straps:
making sure you have a nice long enough tail (for sewing) on the end of your starting chain,
chain 100 (or however many you desire for length)
and work back and forth in the same way you did for the purse body, for 4 rows
of course you can make the strap as wide or skinny as you like.
when you have finished the strap, fasten off the yarn leaving a long enough tail to sew the other side.

sew the straps so that they make a cross with the seams on the body of the bag, and then turn it inside out. now you have a little bag with straps (yay some more!)

now i opted to make a long chain and thread it through the top of my bag for a closure, but you might want to try a button, a snap, or a zipper, so i'll encourage you to have your own way with it :)

Rainbow Mini Paulie-face

well if i can do it.. so can YOU!
just go out and get some stuffing, that's all i had to do.. and a lil snowman looking pocket became a fluffy little body which i felt compelled to sew arms and legs onto!! voila! amigurumi!
so easy, so EASY! i can't believe i never did it before.
and i just made it up as i went. this guy is mini paulie-face,and he sits, stands, and with a little help from human hands.. can also do the double fisted raised arms cheer. yes. (i mean.. YES!!!)
so anyways for my guy i used an aluminum size G (US) hook, and regular WW yarn in a paulie-face rainbow color. the head and body are made in one piece, then the legs and arms are made and sewed on. you dont really have to be that precise when sewing those on, just make sure its secure and aim for one center of balance.. even if it turns out slightly to the left (or right)

here goes the pattern:

**work in rounds always, i join at the end of mine cuz my eyeballs get all googly if i don't. if you can and/or want to, dont join and just use stitch markers (or your god-given eagle eyes)

ch2

1) sc in 2nd ch from hook 6 times. join with sl st to top of first sc.

Deviator Mesh Tote

so i've been working on this round ripple blanket for like... a month? and its the longest time i've ever spent ignoring a project. i just cant seem to motivate myself for it.
in its place ive been making bags :D
this one i named Deviator cuz it caused me to deviate from my original RR plans and into the purse/tote world. its really easy, just uses DC's and chains and Sl St to join
i used an aluminum size N (US) hook and WW yarn since i never have anything else... i think this bag would be more durable in cotton or nylon. anyways i used Caron One Pound (not the whole thing! far from it) i'm hoping to squeeze out 2 more bags from whats left over

Instructions:
chain 4, sl st in 1st chain to make ring
you will work in joined rounds, no turning.

1) ch4 to count as first dc+ch1
(dc, ch1) 7 times in ring
join with sl st to 3rd ch of beginning chain 4

2) sl st into next ch1 space
ch4 to count as first dc+ch1. dc in same space, ch1
(dc, ch1) twice in each ch1 space
join with sl st to 3rd ch of beginning chain 4

*optional- make neat rounds of sc along both sides of strap and opening of bag.
(it will be rounds cuz you will work one side of the body of the bag and go up one side of the strap, join and fasten off yarn
then do the same for the other side.

**also optional- make a chain to your desired length and thread it through the top round of meshes. mmhmm it's a drawstring.

Multicolor Tote

woooo yeah i made this tote in one day (actually less than that but i had to eat, shower, and be the cheering section for my boyfriend while he played a new racing game on the computer)
it's super easy and uses only single crochet... and a chain of course and slip stitches for joining.. derr.
so anyways here it is just for you!
i used Caron yarn that are Mill Ends so i cant say what kind of Caron (possibly about 4 to 6 ounces?). all i know is that its magnificently multicolored... and i used an aluminum size J (US) hook.

here are the Instructions:

ch 31

Round 1) sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each across, putting 3 sc in last ch.
turn work and make sc's across other side of foundation chain, to the last chain.
make 2sc's in that one
join with sl st to top of first sc. (64 sc's around)

Round 2) ch1, sc in same sp as joining and in each around, putting 2 sc's in each of the 3 sc's on the ends. join with sl st to top of first sc. (68 sc's around)

Round 3) ch1, sc in same sp as joining and in each sc around. join with sl st to top of first sc. (68 sc's around)

Rounds 4-35 ) repeat round 3.

at end of Round 35, join and do not fasten off yarn.

Straps:

First Strap:
Row 1) ch1, turn.
sc in same st as joining and in each of next 3 sts.

Row 2) ch1, turn.
sc in each of the 4 sc's.

Rows 3-42) repeat Row 2. At end of Row 42, fasten off yarn leaving a tail for sewing. Skip over 17 stitches to the right and sew the other end of the strap there starting at the 18th stitch
weave in ends neatly.

*Note- of course you can make your straps as long or as short as you want, i just made mine 42 rows long :)

Second Strap:
join yarn with sl st, 9 stitches away from the first strap on the other side of the bag.

repeat Rows as for First Strap, fasten off yarn after the 42nd Row, leaving a tail for the sewing.

Sew the end evenly, making sure that this strap has 17 stitches between the ends, and 9 stitches between the two straps on either side.

Weave in ends neatly.

i put a slip stitch edge along the top and edges of the straps to make it look a little neater, which is just slip stitch in each stitch around... and i made a button hole for a button which i have not yet sewed on :P
i did this by making chains (in my case 20) in the appropriate place in the center of the backside on the top.

*optional- cut a length of fabric slightly wider and twice as long as the size of the bag. Sew with needle and thread into a pocket shape, and then sew that into the bag. (its easier to turn the crochet bag inside out and slip the cloth over it, then sew the open top parts together)

8 Points Round Ripple Blanket

Hi :D it's been a while since i posted on here even though i havent been (really) slacking on projects...
Here is my pattern for a round ripple blanket. i'm surprised at how it turned out cuz it started out not even looking like the picture. i'll put progress pics further on in the post so you can see what i mean.
Anyway, i used Caron Simply Soft yarn and an aluminum size J hook. The directions are a bit funky since i couldn't get the written pattern to flow the way my hook did, hopefully it's not too bad.

Instructions:

ch4, join with sl st to form ring.

Round 1)
ch4 to count as 1st dc+ch1. (cd, ch1) in ring 7 times so that you have 8 sections.

Round 2)
ch1, sc in same sp as joining *(2dc, ch3, 2dc) in next ch1 sp, sc in next dc.
repeat from * around. you will have 8 petals. join with sl st to 1st sc.

Round 3)
ch1, sc in same st as joining. dc in next 2 dc's, *(2dc, ch3, 2dc) in next ch3 sp.
dc in each of next 2 dc's, sc in next sc, dc in each of next 2 dc's*
repeat from * to * around, join with sl st to top of 1st sc.

Round 4)
sl st in 1st 2 sts.
ch2 to count as 1st hdc.
*sk i st, dc in next. (3dc, ch3, 3dc) in next ch3 sp.
sk 1 dc, dc in next stitch. sk 1 dc, hdc in next stitch.
sc2tog over next 3 stitches (you will skip the sc stitch in the middle). hdc in next dc.
repeat from * around, ending with last sc2tog over 3 stitches.
join with sl st to top of 1st hdc.

It should look like this about now kinda:

Round 5)
sl st in next stitch
ch 4 to count as 1st dc+ch1, dc in same st.
*sk 1 st, hdc in next, ch1.
3sc in next ch3 sp, ch1. sk 1 st, hdc in next, sk 1 st.
(dc, ch1. dc) in next stitch. sk 3 sts, (dc, ch1, dc) in next.
repeat from * around, ending with (dc, ch1, dc), sk last 3 stitches.
join with sl st to 3rd ch of beginning ch4.

Round 6)
ch4 to count as 1st dc+ch1. hdc in next ch1 sp.
*sc in next st and in next ch1 sp, sk next hdc, sc in next
sc in center sc of next 3sc corner. sc in next ch1 sp, sk next hdc
sc in next ch1 sp and in next dc, hdc in next ch1 sp.
dc in next dc, ch3, dc in next dc. hdc in next ch1 sp.
repeat from * around, ending with ch3
join with sl st to 3rd ch of beginning ch4.

Then it sort of changes... after a while it poofs on the inside and you can define the points with light shaping

Round 7)
ch3 to count as 1st dc.
dc in next ch1 sp and in next sc.
sk 1 st, dc3tog over next 3 sts.
*sk 1 st, dc in each of next 3 sts, (3dc, ch3, 3dc) in next ch3 sp
dc in each of next 3 sts, sk 1 st, dc3tog over next 3 sts.
repeat from * around, ending with (3dc, ch3, 3dc) in last ch3 sp.
join with sl st to top of beg ch3.

Repeat Round 7 respectively, continue to desired size.

Baby Dress

this is my very first ever baby dress design. yay! it's original and pretty but i have yet to test the sizing :P so if anyone feels up for a challenge i would appreciate some feedback if people try to make this one :D
i made it for my cousin's baby girl (who isn't born yet) and i tried to match the size with a commercially made baby dress. which was size 3-6 months.

primarily i used an aluminum size G hook (US). and i also used an aluminum size I hook (US) for the skirt part.
on the right is a closeup of the skirt, the stitches look pretty, drape super easily, and are fast and easy even though they look kinda complicated :D

the dress works up in two pieces (front and back) which are stitched together leaving an opening for the button flap. i decided to try that type of closure instead of at the back because i don't like how sometimes you can have gaps with crochet, and this way the baby wont have to wear a shirt underneath.

here below is a picture of the front detail

And now finally! the Instructions:
*Note- i use the terms CA and CB for color A and color B. you can make yours in any and as many colors as you want, just make sure to keep track of your stitches :)

FRONT:

With G hook and CA
ch 37

Row 1) hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each across. ch2, turn. (36 hdc)

Rows 2-6) repeat Row 1.

Row 7) hdc in next 11 sts. ch2, turn. (12 hdc)

Rows 8-10) repeat Row 7. At end of Row 10, do not ch 2, do not turn. Fasten off.

Now, making sure WRONG SIDE of work faces you, join yarn like so:

count 12 stitches in, from left to right, of the stitches unworked from Row 6. Join with a sl st to the 13th st and chain 2 (counts as 1st hdc)
hdc across the remaining 11 sts.

Next 3 Rows) ch2, turn, hdc across. (12 hdc)

Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.

2nd PIECE: THE BACK.

ch 37.

Row 1) hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each across. ch2, turn. (36 hdc)

Rows 2-10) repeat Row 1.

Row 11) hdc in each of next 11 sts, ch2, turn. (12 hdc)

Row 12) BUTTON HOLES ROW: hdc in next st, ch2, sk 1 st. hdc in each of next 6 sts, ch2, sk 1 st, hdc in last 2 sts. ch1, turn.

Row 13) sc in each hdc across, putting one sc in each ch2 space.

Row 14) ch1, turn. sc in each sc across. fasten off and weave in ends.

*Now would be a good time to position and sew on your buttons.

Turn pieces inside out (RIGHT SIDE facing RIGHT SIDE and WRONG SIDE facing air... or you)
and sew the little shoulder seam. Then turn the piece right side out, SWITCH COLORS! RS facing!

THE SKIRT: with G hook and CB

join yarn with sl st to center of back. sc in same st twice. make 2 sc in each st around, except when you get to the unjoined ends.
sc those together (overlapping, not decreasing) to close it up, and put an extra sc in same st. makes sense?:)
join with sl st to top of 1st sc. ch2, do not turn.

the pattern stitch for the skirt is called Crossed Bar Stitch which i first saw on Dot's page Crochet bythehook, in this pattern http://bythehook.blogdrive.com/archive/85.html

in my tiny miniscule slight variation: (since all sts in1st row are sc and none are ch's)

yo, insert hook in same st as joining and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook)
skip 1 stitch, yo, insert hook in next st and pull up a loop (5 loops on hook)
yo and pull through all 5 loops on hook. ch1.

*yo, insert hook in same st as end of previous one and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook)
sk 1 stitch, yo, and insert hook in next st and pull up a loop (5 loops on hook)
yo and pull through all 5 loops on hook. ch1*

repeat from * to * around. The last stitch will be as follows, with only one free "hole" visible:

yo, insert hook in same st as end of previous one, and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook)
sk 1 st, yo, and insert hook in same st as beginning of 1st stitch of ROund.
pull up a loop (5 loops on hook) yo and pull through all 5 loops on hook. ch1.
join with sl st to top of 1st crossed bar stitch.

CHANGE TO I HOOK!!!

continue in this pattern, working in the ch1 spaces of previous Rounds, until you have a total of 16 Rounds of Pattern Stitch.

Next Round: ch1, sc in same st as joining. *ch1, sk 1 st, sc in ch1 sp*
repeat from * to * around, ending with ch1, join with sl st to top of 1st sc. Fasten off color.

Edging: CHANGE COLORS!! CHANGE TO G HOOK!! lol

join yarn with sl st to last ch1 space of previous Round. ch1 and sc in same sp.
(3dc in next ch1 space, sc in next) around, ending with last 3 dc in last ch1 space. join with sl st to top of 1st sc. Fasten off, weave in ends.

THE SLEEVES: with CA and G hook.

Do the sleeve without the buttons first because it's easier and you will get the hang of it.
Join yarn with sl st to anywhere on armhole, RS facing you of course. (join at armpit for no-show seam)

Round 1) sc around evenly, 32 stitches.
Please MAKE SURE there are 32 around evenly or the pattern stitch won't work. And neither will the edging.

Round 2) Work same crossed bar pattern stitch as for skirt.

Rounds 3-4) Repeat Round 2. heh.

Round 5) ch1, sc in same st as joining. ch1, *sk 1 st, sc in next ch1 space, ch1*
repeat from * to * around. join with sl st to 1st sc. Fasten off.

**When doing the sleeve with the buttons, work same as other sleeve EXCEPT:
MAKE SURE NOT TO STICH THE FLAP TO THE SLEEVE or you won't be able to fit the baby's head through.
Work carefully around, unbutton the buttons so you know what ends where, and soforth.
You will be stitching in Rounds, so don't let the Row thing bother you, the stitches will join it into a functional sleeve :)

Sleeve Edging:

1) with CB and G hook, work the same as Skirt Edging.

Neckline Edging:

with CB and G hook
Join yarn (RS facing you) to that left corner of the neck that's hidden under the button flap.
work sc's evenly all around the neck, then work sc's (still evenly) around the button flap.
sl st instead of sc where the last st should be, so that the edging fades nicely into the dress instead of poking out awkwardly.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Here is a purse i made while just playing with yarn... as you can see i still wasn't over the shells :)
i named it after my grandmother because she was on my mind while i was yeening.
i used an aluminum size I hook (US) and a small amount of WW yarn (i used Caron One Pounder)

Instructions:

chain 19.

Round 1) sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each across, putting 3sc in last ch. now work free loops of same chain, 1 sc in each space, to the last one, which is same as 1st sc. put 2 sc's in same spot as 1st sc. join with sl st to 1st sc.

Round 2) ch1, 2sc in same st as joining and next sc. 1sc in each of next 16 sc. 2sc in each of next 3sc. 1sc in each of next 16 sc. 2sc in last. join with sl st to top of 1st sc.

Round 3) ch3 to count as 1st dc, 2dc in same st(sk 1 st, sc in next, sk 1 st, 5dc shell in next) around to last 4 sts. sk 1 st, sc in next, sk last unworked st and make 2dc in same st as beginning ch3. join with sl st to top of ch3.

Round 4) ch1, sc in same st as joining. (5dc shell in next sc, sc in center of next 5dc shell) around to last sc. make 5dc shell in last sc, join with sl st to top of 1st sc.

Rounds 5- 12) repeat Rounds 3 and 4.

Yay now the handles:
work in BL only.

2) ch1, sc in same st as joining and in each of next 8 sts. *work 3sctog over next 3 sts (yes this includes the 1st ch from the first handle). sc in each of next 42 ch's. work 3sctog over next 3 sts (includes the last ch from 1st handle). *sc in each of next 12 sc. now rep from *to* for other handle. sc in each of last 2sts. join with sl st to top of 1st sc.

Now you can line your purse with cloth :D or not, either way. although the lining would give you an opportunity to put a velcro, snap, or button inside the cloth part :D

this is a hat i made from shells after making like a billion Cupcake Tops from the Stitch 'n Bitch Crochet book by Debbie Stoller. i couldn't get the shells out of my brain!
So yeah, the second pic is me wearing the hat cuz i don't have a artificial head to model it with :P

i used an aluminum size I hook (US) and WW yarn.

Instructions:

Chain 4, join with sl st to form ring.

Round 1) ch2, make 16 hdc in ring, join with sl st to top of 1st hdc, not the chain.

So named cuz i'm keepin' it! :) i think it's the first thing i ever really made for myself. yay me! now i have been just a little bit busy with life and whatever, so i havent really gotten as much crochet time in.. i also started slacking on taking notes because taking notes takes the fun out of stress relief crochet! so when i get a break i will closely study this number and give y'all the skinny, deal?
Haha yeah, im crazy a lil bit...
This shrug is super easy, works up in a day or two, and it is super easy to adjust to fit.
i used cervinia genova (2 skeins of black, 50grams i think?) and half a leftover skein of paton's classic wool for the grey part.. i think those paton's skeins are 3 and a half ounces.
also an I hook, aluminum.

Shrug Guidelines:
since i ended up giving the darn thing away after all lol.. i wasnt able to ever properly analyze it.
but here it is roughly :D

make a chain that you can wrap loosely around the fattest part of your wrist, then sl st it into a ring and make a chain4 because you are gonna be working in meshes alllll the way :D
mesh is started with a dc in the 2nd chain, then do (ch1, sk 1 st, dc in next) all the way around. join with sl st to 3rd chain of beginning ch4.

sl st into next ch1 space, repeat row as before.

do this until you have a sleeve that fits your arm up to the elbow(or around there)
then you will have to start increasing, which you do by just making a V stitch in any dc space.. i figure you can increase one or two times on each round and get a nice fitting sleeve for your upper arm. and of course, stop increasing when you hit the right size lol.

then!!! once you have the full sleeve... work mesh for mesh evenly and instead of joining at the end of the round, leave it open and just turn your work. so the rounds become ROWS. these rows will make the back of the shrug

make as many rows as you will need to fit across your back. once you have all those, join the ends back together with a slip stitch and start working in rounds again. this time instead of increases you will be making decreases to the wrist.

it's a good idea to keep notes on how many rounds and where the increases were from the first sleeve, that way you can just reverse it.

after you finish the second sleeve, fasten off the yarn and weave in the ends.
then attach it again to the back part, making meshes all around that opening.

i switched colors after about 3 or 4 rounds of black, and i also quit going around, and instead (this is a kinda tricky part but not really if you have stitch markers)
i put the shrug on and marked where my neck went, then using those markers i went in U shape, down one side and up the other, then back again.
that will give you a cute little point on the "end" (you'll see) where you can put your button later.

after you have worked on it to the desired length, you may want to smooth out the edges by working sc's around evenly, and also on the sleeve cuffs.

make a button by crocheting a circle and sewing it on (like i did) OR sew a big already-made one on, and you dont even have to make a buttonhole cuz you can just use a mesh to pop it in

and voila! a shrug :)

Fall Poncho

Yeahh lol. my face thinks its job is to make funny/creepy faces in pictures. i made this poncho from 2 skeins each of "leaf" and "twig" Red Heart Soft, which are 5 oz. skeins. And i used an aluminum size I hook

The squares (or rectangles, derr...) are worked in the basic granny style, and there are four squares of alternating color, joined short side to long side.

i chained 16
Round 1) 2dc in 4th ch from hook
(sk 2 chs, ch1, 3dc in next st) across to last st, ch1
in last st make: 3dc, ch2, then make 3dc in same st.
ch2 again and make 3dc again in same sp.
Now you will be working on the other side of the beginning chain.
Rep as before, to last st on that side. ch1
in last st (same st as first 2dc) make 3dc, ch2 (twice).
join with sl st to top of beginning ch3.

Round 2) ch3, turn.
2dc in ch1 sp just directly behind chains you just made.
(ch1, 3dc in next ch1 sp) across and around.
make sure you put corners (3dc, ch2, 3dc) in corner spaces.
join with sl st to top of beginning ch3.

Continue in this way until rectangle has 12 Rounds, or to desired size.
i changed colors ever 2 Rounds
Fasten off and weave in ends, OR! leave a tail if you prefer, for sewing.

Sew Sides: long sides to short sides, starting at the corners so you match up the right stitches and don't get a wonky lookin poncho.

while this pattern is surely not the first nor the last of its kind, it is my creation and i appreciate that it not be copied or sold. thanks :)

Skull Cell Phone Holder

Out of necessity comes brilliance.. lol with a skull on it. it started with cotton, when i made a cell phone case for a phone which has a love/hate relationship with the floor. it constantly jumps out of my hand to be reunited with its abusive lover, only to be picked back up by me, scratched and broken-y. so i decided to make a protective case.
The first one i made got stolen. grrr! so i made another one, and then i made it AWESOME by adding a skull to the front of it. go me!

i used an aluminum size G hook (US) for both the bag and the skull, and WW yarn (you can pretty much use any kind, but if its really thin make sure its either stretchy or you know how to wing it). my colors are purple and wine, cuz they look awesome together. and also because those were pretty much the only colors i had :P
(i made this specifically for a motorola rzr, but it pretty much fits all cell phones)

Instructions:
**NOTE** ch1 in beginning of rounds never counts as an sc.

Bag: (work in rounds from the start, with no "rings")
ch 9.

1) 3sc in 2nd ch from hook. sc in next 6 sts, 3sc in last. now turn work upside down and sc in free loops of foundation chain. you should have 18 sts around evenly. join with sl st to top of 1st sc.

2-16) Now work in back loops only. ch1, sc in same st as joining and in each around. join with sl st to 1st sc.

Do Not Fasten Off. Do Not Turn.

ch 15.
without twisting yarn, join with sl st to same st you just came from, forming a loop.
Now turn (without chaining, and not too tightly) and sl st back the way you came, evenly thru each ch.
Fasten off, weave in ends. Take a moment to notice how neat and straight the seam is :) (thats my favorite part.. it also helps with the placement of the skull applique...

Now for the fun part!

Skull:
with contrasting color, chain 2.

Round 1) make 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. join with sl st to top of 1st sc. (6 sc around)

Round 2) ch 1, 2sc in same st as joining and in each around. (12 sc)

Round 3) ch 1, sc in same st as joining. (2sc in next sc, sc in next) around. (18 sc around)

Now the Jaw:

1) ch 1, sc in same st as joining and in each of next 3 sc. (4 sc's across)

2) ch 1, sc in same st and in each of next 3. (4 sc's across)

Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

For the Face i strategically placed cute little embroidered X's (cuz it was easy that way) and a little slit for the nose... in the same color as the bag.

Sew Skull to front of bag. i put mine right in the center but you can always do whatever.

Cotton Summer Hat

i made this hat earlier this month but never got around to posting about it... since i gave it to my mom before it was even finished and she swept it away in a hurry :P

soo here are the pictures! i used the rest of that aunt lydia's cotton from the Simple Squares Bag, well actually theres still some cotton left on the roll haha
(oh yeah and i also made 2 cell phone holders from the same umm.. spool?) lol thats a lot of cotton :)

im pretty sure i used an aluminum size H hook (US)

Instructions:
ch 4. join with sl st to form ring.

1) ch3 to count as first dc. 2 dc in ring, *ch3, 3dc in ring. ch3*, 3dc in ring. repeat from *to* once, for 4 corner granny square. join with sl st to top of 1st dc.

2) ch3 to count as 1st dc, turn. (2dc, ch3, 3dc) in first ch2 space. ch1, *(3 dc, ch3, 3dc) in next ch2 space, ch1* repeat from *to* around. join with sl st to top of 1st dc.

3) ch3 to count as 1st dc, turn. 2dc in 1st ch space, ch1. *(3dc, ch3, 3dc) in next ch3 space. ch1, 3dc in next ch space, ch1. * repeat from *to* around. you should end with 4 corners and a 3dc group in between each corner. join with sl st to top of 1st dc.

4) ch3 to count as 1st dc, turn. (2dc, ch 1) in next ch space. make (3dc, ch1) in each space around. this is a rounding step, so you will have no corners. join with sl st to top of 1st dc.

5) ch3 to count as 1st dc, turn. (2dc, ch3, 3dc) in next ch space. (ch1, 3dc, ch1) in next ch space; twice. *(3dc, ch3, 3dc) in next ch space. ( ch1, 3dc, ch1) in next ch space; twice*. repeat from *to* around. you will have 4 corners with 2 groups of 3dc in between them. join with sl st to top of 1st dc.

6-12) repeat Round 4. you will have 16 groups of 3dc.

13) ch1, sc in same st as joining and in each dc around, putting 2sc in the ch1 spaces between 3dc groups. (so you get a nice flare) you should have 80 sc's around. join with sl st to top of 1st sc (in this case the first ch1 doesnt count as a stitch)

14) ch1, sc in same st as joining and in each around. join with sl st to 1st sc. (80 sc's around)

15) ch3 to count as 1st dc. dc in same st as joining. dc in each of next 4 sc. (2 dc in next sc, dc in each of next 4 sc) around. join with sl st to top of 1st dc. (96 dc around)

16) ch1, sc in same st as joining and in each around. join with sl st to top of 1st sc. (96 sc around)

Scarfness

ok now this is a scarf i made for a scarf exchange through one of my myspace groups.. (dont spill the beans!) as long as i dont name names i guess im good. i made this with about 6 ounces of black, about 3 ounces of tan, and a small amount of red (maybe an ounce?)
its longer than i am tall... im 5' plus an inch or two depending on which pair of shoes im wearing :)
and this works up pretty quick, except i was super distracted.. id say if i wasnt doing other things also it would have taken a day or two.

i used an aluminum size I hook (US) and all WW yarn

with black, ch 225
1) sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each across. ch 1, turn.
2) sc in 1st sc, ch1, sk 1 sc, sc in next, *ch 1, sk 1 sc, sc in next sc* repeat from *to* across. sc in each of last 2 sc's. ch1, turn
3) sc in first sc and in first ch1 space. *ch 1, sk 1 sc, sc in next sc* repeat from *to* across.
4) reapeat Row 2.
5) repeat Row 3.
6) sc in each st across. fasten off black

with tan:
7) sc in each sc across. ch1, turn.
8) sc in each sc across. fasten off tan

with black:
9) sc in each sc across. ch1, turn.
10) repeat Row 2.
11) repeat Row 3.
12) sc in each st across. fasten off black

with tan:
13-14) repeat Rows 7 and 8.

with black:
15) sc in each sc across. ch1, turn.
16) repeat Row 2.
17) repeat Row 3.
18) repeat Row 2.
19) repeat Row 3.
20) sc in each st across. fasten off black

join red where black was fastened off and work in Rounds.
1) 3 sc in 1st st, sc across evenly to last st. 3 sc in last st. then work evenly down the side, making sure you have 18 evenly spaced stitches between the corners. (corners are always 3sc in same space). work in this fashion all the way around. join with sl st to 1st sc.
2) sc around evenly, putting 3 sc in corner spaces.
fasten off.

Fringe:
i cut 18 same size strands of yarn, 9 of each color, and put one of each color together for each fringe. they are spaced pretty much evenly, from corner to corner with 2 sts in between each. except for the second to last one which is gonna have 1 st between the fringes on one side, and 2 sts between the fringes on the other side.

Simple Squares Bag

this is a really easy bag i made using half a thing of aunt lydia's crochet cotton.. i dunno what that thingie is called that its wrapped around lol, it looks like a toilet paper roll to me...
it works up real fast cuz its very basically just three squares in sc, joined together funny and then i just added a strap... well the strap is actually in 2 parts and then tied together in the middle but you'll see :D
i used an aluminum size G hook.

Instructions:
First Square (body of bag)
1) ch2, 8 sc in 2nd ch from hook. join with sl st to 1st sc. (8sc)

do not fasten off, instead:
sl st into the next st over, and start joining the square to one side of the big one. (it doesnt really matter which side cuz they're all the same number of stitches... just make sure u stitch the other small square to the side opposite it)
i joined my squares with sc, but i guess u could use whatever stitch u want :)
make sure that the 3sc corners of the little square all get joined to only one st on the big square (per corner)
what i did for my corners was just like a 3sc decrease, joined to the one corresponding stitch on the big square.

now after you have joined your squares, whip stitch the top opening closed a little bit if you like... i whip stitched 12 sts on each side for a little mouth opening, but you can do it however you like, or use a zipper or what have you. now for the straps!

Straps- make 2:
making sure to leave a long tail in the beginning (for sewing, duh)
ch 71 (or desired)
1) sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each across. then flip the work over so that the stitches are upside down, and work an sc in each of the free loops.. oh make sure u put 3 sc's into each end or it will curl kinda tight.
fasten off and weave in that end. then go back to the long tail from the beginning, and use that to whip stitch your strap to the side of your bag (this is why i joined my squares with sc, cuz it was easier for me to see the stitches)

once u have got both straps attached, tie them together in a knot or a bow, and voila! a simple litte purse! :D
i use mine for my extra hooks, measuring tape, a few writing utensils, and my scissors..

here are some little outfits for the tiny dolls. they work up super fast and are worked in rounds from the bottom up. i pretty much just winged these but i suppose there is kinda a certain "way" to them...
i made three dresses out of WW and one out of cotton. all of them are made using a G hook.

Farthest Dress from Left:

With WW
ch 25. making sure not to twist ch, join with sl st to make a ring.

1) ch1, sc in each ch around. join with sl st to top of 1st sc. (25 sc)

2) ch1, sc in back loop only of each sc around. join with sl st to 1st sc. (25 sc)

these are my little juju dolls, named that way because my family has a weird sense of humor (they are NOT voodoo dolls LOL)

they are really easy to make.. i used a G hook and a small amount of WW, and half a cotton ball to stuff each of their little heads

Instructions:

1) ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. join with sl st to 1st sc. (now u have a 6 sc circle)

2) ch1, make 2 sc's in each sc around. join with sl st to 1st sc. (now u have a 12 sc circle)

3) ch1, sc in each sc around. join with sl st to 1st sc. (12 sc's around)

4) repeat last row one more time..

5) ch1, (sc in 1st sc, then make an sc decrease over the next 2 sc's). repeat ( ) around. u will have 8 st's around. join with sl st to top of 1st sc.now stuff the head with half of the cotton ball

6) ch1, make sc decreases using 2 stitches each, around. u will have 4 st's around. join with sl st to top of 1st stitch.

now the fun part.. the arms and legs are worked directly from the head, and its convenient that there are exactly 4 sts around on the last round of the head.

do not fasten off

1) ch 13, sc in 2nd st from hook and in each across. (so u have 12 sc's) join with sl st to the next unworked stitch on the head.

congratulations! you just made an arm!

2) ch 19, sc in 2nd st from hook and in each across. (so u have 18 sc's) join with sl st to the next unworked stitch on the head.

congratulations! you just made a leg!

now repeat the last step for the other leg...

and repeat the first step for the other arm. yay!

on my dolls i made a ch1, and went ahead and put a sl st right between the legs... it closes the opening on the head a little better, and gives them the look of a teeny tiny little body.

and i usually make lil dresses for them, just out of rounds of crochet... i will have to post the pattern for the dress once i get a pic with them clothed.

lil kids love them, and some ppl have asked for scented ones, or like angel ones with a lil string to hang them on their car mirror. hope yall like the pattern!

Here are a few pics of a blanket that i made for my cousin's baby... like way super long ago. maybe 8 months ago i think? i just found them and i remember how super great i thought this thing looked when i made it. the pictures don't really show too good because the color is actually really bright. and also i think i took pics of it upside down lol. those are shells with little mesh window thingies..

i saw two blankets at the time that i wanted to make, and i took the body of one and the border of the other and just combined them. cuz im cool like that :)

Hdc Toque

Ehh just so ya know a "toque" is a hat..

haha i didn't know that either :)

i made this hat all in hdc, with the exception of the very last round (sc). made with a small amount of WW yarn (less than 3 oz) and an aluminum size J (US) hook.

my hat is kinda stretchy, i crochet not so tightly. depending on your own style you might need to add or subtract a few rounds on the end.

Instructions:

Round 1) ch 3, 8 hdc in 3rd ch from hook. join with sl st to top of 1st hdc. (don't count the chains as an hdc, i skip that and use it as a filler since otherwise it leaves holes)

Round 2) ch 2, 2 hdc in each st around. join with sl st to top of 1st hdc. (16 hdc)

Round 3) ch 2, hdc in same st as joining. (2 hdc in next st, hdc in next) around. join with sl st to 1st hdc. (24 hdc)

The Third Square

Here is the third square i ever made (yay!) it was a long time ago...

i used WW yarn and an aluminum size H hook (US), which makes a 6 inch square. awesome.

Special stitches are-

2dc cluster: work as for normal dc until you have the last 2 loops on the hook, and instead of pulling yarn thru to finish, make another dc in the same spot, pulling yarn thru all loops on hook at the end of that dc.

cluster: work as for 2dc cluster, except instead of pulling yarn thru after the second dc thingie, just make one more and pull yarn thru all loops on hook at end of the 3rd dc.

V stitch: work (dc, ch1, dc) in stitch indicated.

Shell: work 3 dc in stitch indicated.

Instructions: ch4, join with sl st to form ring.

Rnd 1) ch3, work 2dc cluster in ring. work 3dc cluster in ring, ch2. (make TWO 3dc clusters in ring, ch2) 3 times, ending with ch2. join with sl st to top of beginning cluster.

Rnd 2) ch3 to count as 1st dc, dc in same sp. 2dc in next sp, (3dc cluster, ch3, 3dc cluster) in next ch2 sp. *2dc in each of next 2 sts, (3dc cluster, ch3, 3dc cluster) in next ch2 sp*. rep from *to* around, join with sl st to top of beginning ch3.

Here is my little dino friend... i made him all in one piece and he's about 4 inches tall made with sport weight yarn and an aluminum size G hook (US) but obviously u can make him bigger or smaller depending on what hook and/or yarn u wanna use.

Instructions: ch 2

1) 6sc in 2nd ch from hook. join with sl st to top of 1st sc.

2) 2 sc in each sc around. join with sl st to top of 1st sc.

3) ch1, sc in same st as joining. 2 sc in next sc. (sc in next sc, 2 sc in next) around. join with sl st to top of 1st sc.

4) ch1, turn. sc in each of next 4 sts. ch1, turn.

5) sc in each of next 4 sc, then ch 4.

Then sl st evenly up the "front" of the body, til you get to the "head" (round part at the top, duh)

Snout: sl st up 2 sts, then ch4.

1) sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each across. join with sl st to sc of "head", making sure to match it evenly.

2) sl st up one sc, turn. sc across. ch1, turn.

3) sl st across "snout" (those 3 stitches) and then sl st into next open sc on "head". then ch 4.

4) sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each across. join with sl st to next open sc in "head". turn, and sl st into next open sc in "head". turn.

5) sc in each sc across. ch1, turn.

sl st evenly across 3 sts of "snout" and into same st as last sl st.

then sl st into next 3 open sc of "head".

work picots all along the dino's back.

my picots are: ch3, sl st in 1st ch. and there are 2 sl sts(in sc's) between each picot.

work picots down the tail, and then sl st along the underside, down the leg, and on bottom of feet.

fasten off, weave in ends.

Here is a cute little flower (i'm not sure if it looks like any real one out there) that i made on a whim. It was easy for me :D but watch Round 4 i tried to be as clear as possible... hopefully ya just keep your eyes peeled on that one.

i made this flower with sport weight yarn (tiny amount of berella sportspun dk) and an aluminum size G (US) hook. but it'll work with any yarn or hook.

Instructions: ch4, join with sl st to 1st ch to form ring.

1) 12 sc in ring. join with sl st to top of 1st sc. (12 sc)

2) ch 1, sc in same st. *ch5, sk 1 st, sc in next. repeat from * until you have 6 ch5 sps. join with sl st to top of 1st sc.

3) sl st into next ch5 sp. ch 1, (2sc, 2dc, 2tr, 2dc, 2sc) in each 5ch sp around. join with sl st to top of 1st sc.

4) sl st down the side of the sc in revious Round and into the open st betweem ch5 sp, ch1. (sc, ch3, sc in next open st) around. join with sl st to top of 1st sc.

5) sl st into next ch3 sp. (sc, 3dc, sc) in each ch3 sp around. join with sl st to top of 1st sc. Fasten off, weave in ends.

i made this little bag using an aluminum size F (US) hook, and one skein of Lion brand Chenille Sensations (which is 1.4oz)

Instructions: ch 2

To Make Strap: (leave long strand at start and end of work, for sewing) ch 3

1) sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next.

2-to desired length) ch 1, turn. sc in each across.

i made my strap 200+ rows. Sew strap evenly to sides of bag.

To Make Button: (for thicker button, make 2 and sl st together along edges) ch 2

1) 8 sc in 2nd ch from hook. join with sl st to top of 1st sc.

2) 2 sc in each sc around. join with sl st to top of 1st sc.

Fasten off, weave in ends. Sew button to bag, making sure it is even with the button hole.

The Second Square

This is the second square i ever came up with. the original was made with WW yarn and an aluminum size H hook, which made a 7" square. For the one in the picture i used WW yarn and an aluminum size G hook to make a 6" square.
Special stitches are X stitch, V stitch and FPDC.

X stitch: (uses 2 sts) skip 1 stitch, dc in next. then dc in the stitch that you skipped, working over the first dc.

V stitch: dc in stitch indicated, ch1, dc in same st.

FPDC: (front post double crochet) Make a double crochet AROUND THE POST (instead of in the stitch) of the next stitch, inserting the hook from back to front, so that you have a ridge or raised stitch.

Instructions:

ch4, join with sl st to form ring, ch1.

Round 1: make 12 sc in ring, not counting beginning ch1. join with sl st to top of 1st sc. (12 sc in ring)

Round 2: ch3 to count as 1st dc, dc in same st as joining. ch2, 2dc in same sp, *X stitch using next 2 sts, (2dc, ch2, 2dc) in next sp, X stitch using next 2 sts* Repeat from *to* around. join with sl st to top of beginning ch3.

Round 3: ch3 to count as 1st dc. FPDC in next st, *(2dc, ch2, 2dc) in corner ch2 space, FPDC in next st, dc in next. Repeat from * around, ending with last 2 sts. FPDC in each stitch, join with sl st to top of beginning ch3.

Round 4: ch 1, sc in same st as joining and in each around, putting 4 sc in each ch2 corner space. join with sl st to top of 1st sc.

Round 5: sl st into next sc. ch3, dc in stitch behind ch3,(which is the same asjoining st of last round) *skip 1 st, V stitch in next, sk 1 st, 2dc in next st, ch2, 2dc in next st. sk 1 st, V stitch in next, skip 2 sts, dc in 3rd, dc in st behind dc just made (X stitch), (X stitch using next 2 sts) twice* , around. end with last X stitches. join with sl st to top of beginning ch3.

Round 6: ch3 to count as 1st dc, dc in st behind ch3 just made (x stitch made), (X stitch using next 2 sts) 3 times. (3dc, ch2, 3dc) in corner ch2 space, *(X stitch using next 2 sts) 8 times, (3dc, ch2, 3dc) in corner ch2 space* Repeat from *to* 3 times, ending with (X stitch using next 2 sts) 5 times. sl st to top of beginning ch3.

Round 7: ch1, sc in same space as joining, sc in each st around, putting 3 sc in each ch2 corner space. join with sl st to top of 1st sc. Fasten off, weave in ends.

The First Square

I made this square a long time ago, i had the scribbled instructions in an old binder... i think i put this up on my geocities site a few years back but never could get a picture. So... after squinting through my chicken scratch instructions i came up with a pretty neat square! tah-dah!!! lol, yeah.
the directions say i used a double knitted weight wool and an I hook to make a 7" square, but this new picture is done with WW acrylic and a G hook. It makes a 6 inch square. Well, here go the instructions:

ch4, join with sl st to form ring. ch1.

Round 1: 8 sc in ring, join with sl st to 1st sc, ch4 (counts as 1st dc + ch1)

Round 2: dc in same space as joining, (2dc, ch2, 2dc) in next sc- corner made. *(dc, ch1, dc) in next sc- Vst made. (2dc, ch2, 2dc) in next sc. repeat from * around, ending with sl st in 3rd chain of 1st ch 4.

Round 3: sl st into ch1 sp, ch1. *sc in ch1 sp, ch2, (sc, ch2, sc) in ch 2 sp. ch2*, sc in next ch 1 sp, ch2. repeat from * to * around, ending with sl st in 1st sc.

Stash Buster Scrap Afghan

Look how pretty! i'm using up all my scraps and putting them to use! :) i havent finished all the strips yet... but soon i'll have a blanket to fit on my full size bed. i decided to do long strips of double crochet rows, edged in one round of single crochet, because they work up quickly and i can do one strip a day. i'm working on the 6th strip still, but after that i think it will be about the right size and i can do a round of single crochet around each that is the same color and whips stich them together...
then!! we'll see. i'm thinking about doing a bunch of rounds around the whole thing, then edging in single crochet, maybe with picots :P

oh yeah if anyone wants the pattern it's loosely umm

For each strip:

with an aluminum size J hook (US)

Chain 27

Dc in 4th st from hook and in each across

Ch 3, turn, dc in each dc across (you will have 25 stitched per row)

Continue until there are a total of 124 rows of dc, then without turning, ch1

and turn strip lengthwise. sc evenly across the length of strip and all around it, putting 3 sc in each corner.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Simple Sweater

i made this sweater all in single crochet, its very soft but a bit breezy, so you might want to wear something under it if its cold, or use 2 strands of yarn at once for thickness. this is just a prototype, which of course i then made a gift of :) yay me. i used some 3.5 oz balls of yarn- 4 of the main color (with a lot of the 4th ball left over) and 1 of the contrasting color (also with a lot of the ball left over. and i used a plastic size N hook. this fits a women's size small/medium, but you can change the size easily by chaining more stitches on the beginning foundation and adding more rows to the body for length.

2 colors: MC and CC

Instructions: with MC, ch 121

Row 1) sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each across.

Row 2) ch1, turn. sc in each sc across. (make sure u always have 120 sc across)

Rows 3-17) Repeat Row 2.

Row 18) change to CC and Repeat Row 2.

Row 19) (to make neck) ch1, turn. sc in each of 1st 50 sc. ch 20, skip next 20 sts. sc in each of last 50 sc.

Row 20) ch1, turn. sc in each sc and ch across. fasten off CC.

Rows 21-36) change to MC and Repeat Row 2.

At the end of Row 36, turn butdo not ch1. fold piece in half lengthwise so that the last Row worked and the Foundation chain meet.

Making sure that each stitch matches up, sl st (thru both thicknesses) in each of next 40 sts, to join sides and make sleeve. Fasten off, then with same side facing and counting left to right, skip 39 sts and join yarn to 40th st. sl st in each of last 39 sts. Fasten off and weave in ends.

You will now be working in Rounds.

Round 1) without turning work, join yarn with sl st to the farthest st to the right (the same st as last joining sl st of first sleeve). sc in each st around, including where 1st and last stitches of joining were made for sleeves. (80 sc around)

Round 2) ch1, turn. sc in same st as joining and in each around. join with sl st to top of first sc. (80 sc)

Rounds 3-4) Repeat Round 2.

Rounds 5-6) change to CC and Repeat Round 2.

Rounds 7-12) change to MC and Repeat Round 2.

Rounds 13-14) change to CC and Repeat Round 2.

Rounds 15-34) change to MC and Repeat Round 2.

Round 35) (dec shaping round so the body doesnt look all ripply) ch1, turn. sc in same st as joining and in each of next 6. dec over next 2 sts. (sc in each of next 7sc, dec over next 2 sts) around. join with sl st to top of 1st sc. (72 sts)

Round 36) ch1, turn. sc in each st around. join with sl st to top of 1st sc.

Neck:
Work 2 Rounds of sc around neck opening, making sure to sc dec over the 3 sts in both corners of 1st Round. Fasten off and weave in ends.

I made this hat after looking online for an earflap hat... and found them all lacking. so i decided to take matters into my own hands! this pattern takes about 1.5oz to 2 oz of WW yarn, and that solid plastic hook in the picture there. It's bigger than the K but smaller than the other giant ones... i've been informed that it's an N hook! hooray!

Instructions: ch4, join with sl st to form ring.

1) ch1, 8sc in ring. join with sl st to top of 1st sc. (8sc)

2) ch1, 2sc in each sc around. join with sl st to top of 1st sc. (16sc)

Septopus (brown hat with brim using FPDC skillz!)

i made this up for my aunt's christmas present, yeah it's in poopoo brown lol. its really easy and uses a lot of repetitive "plus one" rounds... i just wish the picture was better!
i used an aluminum hook size H (US), and approximately 3-4 oz. of poopoo brown (it came from an 8oz skein of LeeWards "soft n' carefree" which i think is way super discontinued)

*Note- do NOT count ch1 at beginning of rounds as 1st sc.

Instructions:

ch 2.

Round 1: (sc in 2nd ch from hook) 7 times. join with sl st to top of 1st sc. (7sc)

Round 10: ch1, sc in same st as joining and in each of next 6 sc. 2 sc in next, fpdc in fpdc. *sc in each of next 7 sc, 2 sc in next. fpdc in fpdc* Repeat from *to* around. join with sl st to top of 1st sc. (7 fpdc, 63 sc)

Round 11: ch1, sc in same st as joining and in each of next 7 sc. 2 sc in next, fpdc in fpdc. *sc in each of next 8 sc, 2 sc in next. fpdc in fpdc* Repeat from *to* around. join with sl st to top of 1st sc. (7 fpdc, 70 sc)

Round 13: ch1, sc in same st as joining. sc in each sc, fpdc in each fpdc around. join with sl st to top of 1st sc. (7 fpdc, 77 sc)

Rounds 14-28: Repeat Round 13

Brim:
Row 1: ch3, dc in each of next 28 sts. (29 dc)

Row 2: ch3, turn. alternate fpdc's and dc's across, making dc dec over last 2 sts. (27 sts)

Row 3: ch1, make sc dec over 1st 2 sts. sc dec over next 2 sts, sc in each of next 9 sts. make sc dec over next 3 sts, sc in each of next 9 sts. sc dec over last 2 sts. Fasten off, weave in ends. (22 sts)
